You could just go for Robinson-Young. Or Young-Robinson. Which name comes first would be good to spark another debate.

(Young is totally the cooler name, though. Sorry if you're the Robinson.)

Generally, yeah, Young is better.

But there's the question of which flows better with both first names, which I think is important. Young is better... generally. But there are certain names, imo, it just doesn't work well with, that Robinson does.

Young definately has the most potential to attract bad jokes from other people. To save them pain in the playground, Robinson would be kinder. The worst you get would be book/tv related jokes

Either go for a double-barreled name or use Young or Robinson as the child's middle name. I would use Robinson-Young by way of order.

I'd say you don't even necessarily have o give every child the same surname. A couple of friends of mine, full biological sisters, each use a different parent's last name simply because they flow better

I for one advise against using both. It's an unsustainable practice, and in a couple of generations surname creep will make it impossible for your descendants to fit their full name on their IDs, making them second-class citizens.

Or you can do a mash, like we do sometimes in our family:

Robinsonyoung => Robinyoung (or similar)

Kids are inventive little buggers - I quickly came up with Robinsuck, Slobinson, and then variations on those with more and more uncouth components, and I'm not sitting bored in a classroom for hours

Reminded me of an interview with  Frank Zappa - they asked him if his kids Moon Unit or Dweezil ever got teased in school because of their names.  It was the 3rd kid with the relatively normal name of Ahmet who had the problem because they were calling him "Ahmet Vomit".  It was so relentless he started calling himself "Rick" for a while and was seriously thinking of changing his name legally, heh...
