It's also up on Steam for EA purchase as well.

In almost two weeks.  You broke my heart man.

Seriously? Man, their Kickstarter emails painted a different picture, sorry sir.

And reading the email for real reals, they said they would get Steam keys to Humble Bundle key owners when it goes live on Steam.

Its kinda silly to complain that a friendly NPC isn't a well designed boss fight.

Apparently you can buy it direct already though, but no Steam key (yet?)

Downloading it now.

How open-world is it? Is it like mega-procedural RL or more of a coffee break type thing?
Logged
With enough work and polish, it could have been a forgettable flash game on Kongregate.

It's neither. The world is not procedural. Locations are fixed. I suppose you could consider it a coffee break game just like FL....but I get the sense you can do way more in 5 minutes in Fallen London than you can with 5 minutes in Sunless Sea. Like Sappho said, travel is slow, things are expensive and you have overhead like supplies and fuel. So grinding for money in an efficient and not-lethal way seems to be the crux of the game (aside from exploring and enjoying the ride.) Which....is pretty much exactly like Fallen London.

I'm pretty sure it's at least partly procedural.

Yeah I guess I'm just trying to gauge the depth of it, as I've gotten pretty bored of these sort of 'short but sweet' rpgs recently and want something to actually sink my teeth into. A lets play would be great, or if not just a bit more description on how much there is to do other than just improve your vessel and whatever.

Well that helps replay a little. It's probably closer to D3, where a lot is fixed with some variations.

I have to go to a work dinner now, so that botches my plan to do a let's play tonight. Tomorrow I go straight from work to a music festival... Maybe I can get something done in the morning before I have to leave. At least a little peek.

Haven't gotten to read too much, yet.  But so I that I can gauge the value, has anyone "beaten" the game?  Or could someone share about how much time investment/playability there seems to be?

I'd say it's got slightly less replayability than your average rogue-like, based on the little I've played. More if you're the kind of person that plays themed characters and doesn't just do everything because you can.

As for time investment.....as in time to beat? Unknown at this point, but playing "hardcore", it will probably take awhile.

Bear in mind that winning in Sunless Sea is a matter of your ambition. So if your ambition is to be rich, you can just grind cash to win, which means you don't have to see half the content to win.

Anyone found an effective way to get rid of Terror early game? I was kinda gobsmacked most of the early reductions are -1, while you build terror like crazy out on the zee.

Carouse.

Keep to the shallows to avoid building terror.

Damn expensive, carousing. The tip for the shallows is helpful though. I figure this is beta or w/e, everything is cranked up abnormally high. I can kill 4 pirate steamers in a row, when I'm down on a crew. As soon as the last dies, another starts coming for me from off screen and catches up. They're easy, but it does not bode well for the later game, this level of spawns and the rate at which you generate terror vs. how expensive it is to get rid of.

Also, we really need to be able to name our ship. Rather improper, ship without a name.
