-SUGGESTION- Fort-Mode Dragging
« on: September 09, 2013, 08:49:36 pm »

I was thinking up a new idea while playing fortress mode, would it be possible to make a quick update for dragging live people around in which have no other way of moving? I.G. Broken bones, torn nerves, etc.

Or is it already in game and no dorfs/orcs/kobolds are actually capable of doing this on their own?

Here's some things that could be used in transporting live people I think would make a good edition to Masterwork DF.

  • Wheelbarrows
  • And normal grabbing and carrying.

That's really all I gots. But this is directed towards Meph, because he does all the mod work himself. (Right?) What I'm getting at is when there's spare time, do you think you could implement this for the next update?

Thanks for reading.

I believe dwarves will carry wounded brethren inside to a designated hospital, so in a sense what you're asking for already exists. But I take it you're asking for a feature involving dragging around wounded enemies? In that case, cage traps have been the traditional way of carting around baddies.

Technically I meant everyone. Be it comrades, or bad gaiz.

This brings me to add on to the suggestion : Prisoners of War.

Simply load the bad guy into a cage and haul them off into

the prison.

Originally what I meant was for dwarves to carry off wounded into a non-hostile area, say, out of harms way.

Hmm. So say, you manage to capture a high-ranking member of an invading force. Say, a general, or the king. You can then keep that figure prisoner for bargaining power over aforementioned civ, meaning you won't get sieged. Or perhaps they'll send a diplomat and offer a tentative peace for a few years in exchange for the prisoner? Or that they'll send a caravan and try to trade for him?

And don't say I can't, gize. If it's Popsicle it's possible.

Life creatures cant be used in reactions in any way. I COULD make them pastured on a workshop and run a reaction with an interaction that only targets those, but thats difficult to do with hostiles, e.g. cages invaders.

Certainly no dwarves riding minecarts either.

Alright, thats good enough really. Captured enemies could act as animals, only not needing to graze, acting as prisoners. Using a pen/pasture thing, pasture them to a workshop or so to work that workshop and such.

My question to the concept of prisoner-hauling-n-reactions... why? What does it add? I mean, without a fairly intricate system to 'negotiate' for the return of prisoners or similar - it seems quite pointless, especially since DEAD invaders are used in biology now, where a prisoner is well, useless, cumbersome, and generally a waste of effort.

As for hauling around 'injured' dwarves - why would you not have them at a hospital being 'fixed up' and instead trying to force them to work while crippled? What kind of bloody monster are you?! ;)

Hey man, this one time I had a miner who lost a leg, and as soon as he was given a crutch he went right back to work. How can I be a monster by putting cripples to work, if they just go right back to work once patched up? If you ask me, dwarves have some great work ethic. Entire family died? He might not be happy, but he'll pump out a few bars of steel before he goes batshit.
