Turn 4
Early Spring, Week 4
=====================
Arrivals How do they keep finding us? Is it because of all the campfires we make?
This week 155 people made our...uh..."town", home. A hundred fifty five.
I need a drink.
First up was Mammoth Charge, who I kept on miscalling as "Elephant Charge" for some reason. A very militarily focused group of avians. Supposedly they're from the northlands, where the Avians are constantly skirmishing with each other for local resources, but that's probably just a rumor.
Second is Green Beard. Smaller group, but worships a lesser deity from the swampland. Don't remember the god's name.
Then came an odd mix of Neko and Goblin. Guess they met each other en route. Were they running from something? I can't imagine such a large group just randomly leaving a town willy nilly...
Nekos were lead by a "kittehs". which is oddly plural for a single person. But then once I called the name all the swordNekos answered, so I'm a little worried.
Rolep's got some brewers with him. If we had anything to brew with I'd love to have some good goblin stuff. Not as strong as Dwarven brew but tastier.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
UnknownsKesh disappeared shortly after he realized I didn't document his week's contributions. A pity but I hope he'll be treated better elsewhere.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
UpdatesI'm just gonna omit the party income tally. The resources coming in is just too fast to keep track.
Kaian-a-coel's Unit
For whatever reason Kaian declared that we should "hunt in moderation" and avoid taxing the local wildlife too hard.
And then his elven archers left and brought back some Moose types, citing the immediate need for leather. Not sure how I feel about that.
The Elven orchardeers weren't altogether happy about being told that planting trees takes a long time, and we're too unstable to be making orchards right now, so they went and sulked among the fruit trees in the forest. They still brought back good stuff though, so I'm not complaining.
Everyone else spent all their time in the tent building effort so we can have some kind of roof over our heads. It's a little strange how we've had nothing but good weather this month but I guess that won't last, now that I mention it.

Keeper's Unit Farmers went and farmered. They made three pretty large fields and planted them. They also tended to the current farms. A major point of note: The farms are set up a fair distance from camp so we don't have to rip them out when we invariably build over it.
The gardens are fine though. They're small enough.
Axemen went and lumbered. Due to the fact that we don't have a good way of crossing the water they spent most of the week harvesting from the small forest land south of the camp. Until Mick came up with his dragcart and a few were made for trial runs. A bit crude but gets the job done.
Like all builders everywhere, Keeper's cats are busy building tents. It's a little slower going since the Nekos tend to be...less focused some times, but not by enough to matter.
What I wasn't sure on was the sending of the weaver and clothemaker to do some hunting. I mean, yeah, they're natural hunters (not in the same scale as Avians but still good) but oh. oh. that's. ow.
One of them tried to bring down a Moose type. It did the most epic roll on the ground (with the neko latched onto its back) and almost stomped the poor guy to death. one Avian -Kwaa's?- made a fast Diving Charge and offed it just in time. Whew.
Guy's getting a scolding now though; something about not waiting for support. Guess they're not loner-type nekos...or they're more embarrassed at needing to be assisted by an air unit. Hard to tell.

Sergei's Unit Major breakthrough. His Lumberjacks and Builders spent the entire week (along with as many of the unpartied as he could round up) building this underground food storage building. I called it a granary but he was pretty adamant on calling it a "Root Cellar". Sounds better, I have to admit.
The weaponsmiths spent the went making knives out of the flint they got and then made some needles out of the bone of hunted animals. Why?
Oh, that was why. They're making armor out of the leather we have.
When did we tan those? Oh well. Guess the unpartied took care of it.
It's still crude but in the process of being refined. Once we get better leather they'll end up being better, I guess; what did he call them? Jerkin?
So they're...uh.
"Sergei's Jerkin" sounds potentially problematic.
I'm just gonna call them Leather Armor for now.
And their mages are assisting Promtho's on the whole Familiar business. It's going pretty well but without more (and more powerful) spell books it's slow going.
hehehe. Jerkin.

Mick Fishermen fished, smoked fish.
Gatherer and Orchardeers helped Sergei out on his Root Cellar. Nothing to see here.
His builders started building the Commune, a giant round building with some rather dubious looking roof. But it can house a lot of us, and it's not going to. This building will serve as the Center of the Village for the moment as well as housing the party leaders until they have other arrangements.
His builders also devised this...holdable wall of a shield. He's calling it the squad shield. It's like someone blew out everything on a house except a wall and was too embarassed to leave it standing, so they took it with them. Holy hell this thing is huge. It needs at least four humans to even -move- that thing.
It offers effectively perfect protection against archers and can be repositioned, despite its weight. If the Nekos would stop climbing on it.
Also the lumberjacks built the dragcart. Which is a simple, crude, and very welcome design. Makes our orchardeers and gatherer's jobs so much easier.

Kwaa-naa The...rather proud Avian folk proposed making their home styled tree houses in the forest, with the obvious issue of there not being any forest within our town area. So instead of actually building the house in the trees they're taking the time to figure out how to make it work.
One of the major things that happened for Kwaa was, besides the whole deal with the scouts, the attempted catching of the horse types. Unforunately the attempt wasn't successful, and by the time trapper immigrants came in the horse types had moved on. It was a good attempt though; apparently the horse types weren't fazed by a single Avian, so all of Kwaa-naa's hunters made a unified parallel charge while screeching at the top of their lungs. we heard it back at camp, for gods' sake.
Kwaa's lumberjacks also spent some time to build charging lances for their spearmen. For the record, Avian lancers are easily the most terrifying force to fight against, and as such most civilized armies have some form of countermeasure in the event they face one. Considering Avians have been seeing quite a lot of success as mercenaries, this means every army lately carries some form of anti air equipment.
Considering how much Avians can charge for their support that anti air must be pretty bad.
Where was I? Ah, yeah.
Kwaa's got lancers now and they're trying to improve on the sharpened wood they got. The whole thing with the scout blew over; considering we disposed the corpses there shouldn't be any problems.

Promtho's Unit Tent building for almost everyone.
Mages kept with their research. Considering how little they have to work with the progress is pretty good.
Maybe if they found some means to make more spellbooks. I'd imagine the process is a bit harder than just making a normal book.
~~~
Also their Printers made some short stories or whatever written in blood. One of the Printers tried to use an Avian feather as a quill but blood doesn't work that way.
Still, hell of a thing to read on your free time. a comedy written entirely in blood.
I guess it still hasn't sunk in yet.
...blood for books. WHAT THE HELL?!
Mammoth Charge ElephantMammoth Charge seemed to also be from a warrior class family, 'cuz the first thing he did was conduct research on how to make the already deadly avian charge better. Might've been kicked out of his hometown for being too awesome.
He wasn't exactly happy when he found out that we had no materials to make weapons or armor with, but improvised with what we have. His unit are making Sergei's leather armor, and very crude sword and spears of his own design. They hold up under pressure fine though.
Also he inherited Sergei's spirit, considering they started drilling the instant they got set up.
Were they mercenaries? 'cuz drilling at every opportunity is a pretty mercenary thing to do.
I mean Mammoth is drilling the troops. Hard workers, them.
Green Beard With a name like that you'd expect him to be a dwarf. No, the guy's human from somewhere down south. Lots of swamp in the region, apparently.
ANyways they seem pretty self-contained. Making their own brand of shelter and...weaving baskets.
In retrospect the fact that they can make baskets is really the most powerful advantage they can give us.
And their fishermen fished. Wait, they had fishermen with them?
Oh look there they are.
kittehs Weird orders from...it? hard to tell gender at this distance.
The miners were told to start digging into the mountain. They made...commendable process considering the tools available to them.
I'm not sure how much more diplomatic I can be about "They failed horribly". Everyone else were told to build ladders. Pretty rickety ladders, but ladders nonetheless.
Also of note: Yet another Neko metalsmith caste. Once we get access to metals and shit things'll go smoothly.
Rolep
Lastly, our goblin buddies.
I talked to their brewers earlier and they're pretty keen on getting to work once a brewery gets built. Unfortunately they're the only ones that can build one to their specifications, and of course we don't really have anything to store water with; the river is within acceptable walking distance anyways.
Their gatherers are going around and searching exclusively for grains. Guess they have better eyes than I did since they found some when I wasn't looking. They found some near the rock I'm sitting on, too. Goblins have pretty good eyes.
*SNAP* *MEWROW!*
Uh. 'scuse me.
So apparently Rolep told his guys to set up animal traps for everyone else. I'm assuming he means "everyone not involved in tasks should build and set traps" but apparently one overzealous trapper decided to literally set traps for the entire village.
Fortunately he stopped, but not before one of the traps snagged a Neko.
We stopped her from ripping his face off though, so it's all good. Kinda.
Good thing we don't all have tents right now.
Where was I? uh...
Oh! right. the carpenters. Apparently they were told to "use stones to hack at wood" and nothing else. Now, goblins usually aren't know for their ingenuity or assertiveness (except when raiding villages) so I expected these carpenters to just, y'know, throw stones at a tree and call it a day.
Nope. These guys work hard and fast. They got almost the same amount of lumbering done as our established teams. Skill, right there.
And finally the not-overly zealous trappers(and company) managed to snag some small game with their crude traps. props to them for quick thinking on the fly.
End of Week 4
===========================
I think I'm either coming really close to the character limit on a single post or breaking some record on spoiler tag usage. Anyways.
Recruitment for Mock Combat is Open until Monday eveningSubmit the following:
Number of squads
Squad composition
format: Name Weapon Size Pro (ex.
Spear 5 2, so 2 professionals in the group bolstered by 3 militia. Spear 5 0 would be all militia. etc.)
Squad Combinations (optional), with a name different from the normal squad names.
format: Squad Names -> Combined Name.
So it'd end up looking something like this:
+=
Squads: 4.
Composition: A Spear 5 0, B Spear 5 0, C Archer 3 7, D Archer 0 10.
Total 13 17.
A C -> Combat Unit 1, B D -> Combat Unit 2.
+=
As well as the
General Orders the units should take.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Is there a character limit for posts? 'cuz this is hitting 20k.
Also, let me know if there's any errors or points of contest.
I'll probably find a different method of update in the future. Yeesh.
