I would say I'm surprised by the group licking thing but...uh.
In honor of that poor Neko

Turn 5
Late Spring, Week 2
=====================
Arrivals Remember that supposedly large group of people the scout saw a while back? Turns out it's a pretty small group. About 50 or so (mostly elves and nekos) but they had a lot of wagons. Wagons that can't make it over the river (yet?)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Diplomacy Nothing about either SouthTown or NorthTown; kittehs sent a scout towards SouthTown but obviously...he? she? Isn't back yet.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
UpdatesParty leaders that had no significant contributions are left out to save space.
Mick
His order of business was make massive homes for everyone. Not everyone like these massive homes because, y'know, it's just a glorified largetent but after that sudden rainstorm yesterday there's not much grumbling. At him.
He also got into the boatmaking business by carving canoes. The first few either rolled over and sank or similar, but the later ones turned out ok. His fishermen are working with them now.
Ok no they're not. They're still flipping over or outright failing the stab. Still needs more work.
Also some of the fishermen found some grass or something along with a catch of fish. They burned it and now they're a little out of it.

Kwaa-Naa Nothing major; the Avians in general disliked having to go near water, and one of the major construction projects being a dock wasn't winning any favors. He...She? How come I don't pay attention to these things? managed to rally the avians long enough with this weird thing called logic, and they've spent the past two weeks helping out constructions where they could.
Mostly with the communal houses, but meh. Help is help.
Also some of the spear avians started refining their lances. I'm not exactly sure how plucking a small tree and sharpening it is considered an improvement but frankly I'm not going to ask.

Mammoth Charge
After the drill combat ended, Mammoth went into full combat mode: his soldiers are training, his armorsmiths and weaponsmiths are trying to improve what little ramshackle gear we have and make more of them.
Namely...
Leather armor that's got more leather on 'em,
and leather armor that's got less leather on them.
I'm assuming the more leather variant is meant for our heavy guys, but until we actually get some kind of metalworking done there's very little we can do.
His weapon guys have been adding spikes to all of our weapons. I guess they hit harder now? I'm not quite sure how that spiked spear worked out but supposedly it's good. I don't see how it's supposed to work out.

Green Beard He...didn't win many friends with his intention to capture the scout boat, and moved his posse a little further from everyone else. Of course if he moved away entirely it would be kinda obvious who's doing what (and thus be bad for his health).
He's got a way with the weavers though. They're making woven shields and a woven boat.
That woven boat offends all of my knowledge about boats. Considering how much I have that isn't saying much, but still.
The woven shield is interesting though. While it literally crumbles after getting hit it's still in the initial stages. If nothing else this will free our carpenters to make more important things, like furniture.
Oh, earlier today he suggested a Caterma-thing. Apparently it's a type of boat with a special hull. He couldn't really tell me what it was so...fingers crossed the weavers will stumble on it someday?
They also made fishing nets. Unfortunately we apparently have some very net-averse fish: Every net-fish attempt has failed so far, and one try ended with a poor goblin being dragged by whatever he was netting out into the ocean very quickly.
He had to swim back to shore but he didn't seem too unhappy about it.

Yes he was waterskiing
kittehs Turns out that one of the Nekos that fell into the water was one of kittehs' inner circle.
I'm not entirely sure why they felt the need to lick her clean. I'm not complaining (nor is the majority of the camp, although I get the feeling the Avians are interested in a different way) but...
In less problematic news, kittehs made leather shields (wood with leather on top of 'em). More shields, woo. I suppose they're tougher than the woven ones but they're shields
And their weaponsmiths made bone rapiers. I...don't know what a rapier is. The weapon itself is very long and very sharp. I'm pretty sure it's going to break after a use or two because it's made of bone, but I still don't know why it's a "rapier".
And for whatever reason they have miners digging out trenches. The miners themselves didn't know and frankly didn't want to, so very little of that got done.
Biggest thing that happened is the bridge got started. I say "got started" because nobody could make a bridge that spanned the river and not have it collapse or get washed away, so I guess that's going to be a thing. (Apparently nobody in the village has come across a river that seemingly shrink and expand every hour).

Rolep
The goblins were carefully watched by the Nekos this time around in case traps, but since the goblins weren't going to do anything the Nekos quickly lost interest.
I'm not sure why goblins get overshadowed by dwarves for ingenuity, but being able to make wooden planks of this quality with crappy stone tools is very impressive.
The dock started with these guys, building off of that stake the Avian drove into the ground. In the future I'd imagine there would be a "formal" dock on the coast, but for now this'll do. It's pretty stable too. We only nearly lost two humans who felt like they should jump on it (One of them broke a badly made plank, the other one missed the dock entirely. Considering they were both jumping up and down I'm not sure how the second guy missed).
Major focus towards brewable foodstuffs for these two weeks; the rain has been a little mean and honestly we could all use it. Carpenters have been churning out buckets on their free time; they're a tad leaky but overall it's not too bad.
One last thing: Their trapper brought in one of the horse-types. It kicked a goblin in the face while being hunted and nearly killed him on the spot. Fortunately it also lost its balance while kicking so I'm assuming they're not very smart. The sight and/or smell of the Avians is driving it insane though, how weird.

Food Income
Surplus - We collect enough or more than we eat.
Minor overflow - A small amount of collection is thrown out.
Storage
Enough for the next month, assuming zero income.
Gathering fatigue
Very light across all areas.
All gatherers are encouraged to avoid overhunting.
Food Variance
Fairly high, most of it fresh.
As a result morale is pretty good.
Materials Income
Enough - We use it as fast as we can get it.
Storage
Zero - too much construction going on.
Quality
Pretty low - Lack of good tools hampers our builder capability.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Buildings Housing
Not enough - some people don't have a roof over their heads.
It's starting to wear on morale.
Housing is being built as quickly as we can.
Administration
None present - Everyone does whatever.
Storage
Food - room for a month.
Material - none present.
Farms
Food - large scale, currently in use. No room for harvest
Material - small scale, currently in use.
Defense
Walls - none
Towers - none
Economy
Dock - Simple, stationed on river
Other
Bridge - no design: builders puzzled by river of unusual width.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
TechnologyOffense
Mostly wood, bone, stones. What we can get our hands on.
Defense
Ditto as offense.
Economy
Standard frontier fare (leathers, crude wood, etc)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Plans kittehs has a scout scouting out SouthTown. Expecting a repot within the next week or so.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Morale Humans - Fair. Entertained by Nekos.
Elves - Fair. Slightly discouraged by the lack of major woodlands within encampment.
Nekos - Happy. Natural state. Except when it's raining, then they're pretty depressed.
Avians - Fair. Happy about keeping their combat edge. Unhappy about working near water. Strangely fine when it rains.
Goblins - Happy. I don't know why either.
Half-Elves - Fair. Gotten over their self-imposed depression.

200 Neko
100 Human
30 Goblin
130 Avian
Total: 610 (ish)
+around 50 newcomers these two weeks.

Other General Things That Happened
The wagons that showed up had some proper mining tools. Our miners are happy to be digging into the mountain. Which they are doing.
They were told to dig for minerals and building material: hope they remember how to stay safe since they're not dwarves.
An Avian Scout saw a large ship coming up south of here. It's probably a boat from SouthTown, and honestly I'm worried about what's on it if it's large enough to be seen from the scout point (which is pretty far from the camp, but not -that- far).
I hope that scout has unusally good eyes.
PS: wet Nekos are not like wet cats; they're a little less sulky and lot more angry, unless their own race is involved.
PPS: Slightly disappointed the Neko cleaning thing happened within a tent, regardless of claims that nothing interesting happened.
Current Town MapScaled down the commune since it was bigger than it really was. Still not to scale, but eh.

Now taking orders for Turn 6.
Turn 6 will resolve on... Friday? Real life is rearing its head so let's go with Friday for now.
Big bold font is a ticket for me to run with it, mind.
