(1)You slip and fall off the rope!

Mine around the gem with my pickaxe.

It was sitting on the ground. Also, you're still in the dirt layer.

Oh, I thought that there might be a gem deposit. In that case,

Dig straight down!

No! You never dig down!
Also, I'm not entirely sure how effective it is to dig with a pickaxe.

Gah!

Pick up nearby skull, identify it, move to the right until I find something interesting.

(3+1)The skull seems to be that of a human or primate. [I'm ruling that archaeologists get a bonus to this sort of thing.]
(-)You move to the next screen.

Approach the pool of water. Examine the pool of water.

(3)You are unable to find anything interesting about the pool of water.

((GWG, here.))

Continue down the hole, and try to catch up with GWG. See if he's interested in helping me with my studies while we're down here.

(6)You climb all the way down to GWG.

((I'll take any face you want to give me))
Investigate the green bush-like thing.
((I assume that's the frame I'm in, if I'm not I'd like to change my action.))

(1)On closer examination, it appears to be a cluster of mushrooms. That's all you can figure out about it, though.

"Sam, can I borrow a rope? I want to see what's below the bridge"If he lends me a rope, try to get below the bridge. Tie it onto the bridgepost. If he won't give me it (PRIIIICK!!!!) then help him investigate the bush

(6)You successfully descend.

... How the fuck am I supposed to survive this?

Try to grab onto something because Steve, The Most Powerful Steve in all of Stevedom is apparently a moron...
