It is the year 1975 AAD (After
Anno Domini) and the world has been warped into a barren rock from solar flares and meteor strikes drawn to the Earth by mega-corporations working on a secret weapon back in the 1800's. This weapon, combined with the constant threat of falling rocks and solar flares, caused widespread death and destruction. The world's head scientists and doctors frantically created a special treatment where they could prolong human life. They had to prematurely release a prototype, but it resulted in the creation of the Necros. Necrotic Evil Corpses Resembling Old Selves. They required the bodies of living humans to maintain their health, and they had the ability to perform a twisted version of the treatment that created them. This created the zombies.
Now, these aren't your moaning zombies that shuffle along; they can wield weaponry, speak, reason, and learn. They work under the Necros and require the brains of human bodies to grow stronger and smarter, but are mostly mooks for the Necro that birthed them. They spread their disease to those that they bite, and become weaker versions of the originating zombie. These new zombies retain the traits and some of the memories and skills of the original zombie. The zombie horde attacked New Earth en masse, causing even more loss to the world's population.
To combat this new threat, the Government created a new caste of "undead", using a refined version of the original treatment. They are the Vamps. Vampiric Artificial Monstrous Personnel. They only require the feeding of blood, and are more or less one-man armies. Though, even armies could not stop the Horde, so the Vamps created their own bands after the downfall of the Government. These ranged from direct fighting groups to charities and farmers. In the New World, travel and transportation of goods is increasingly violent and dangerous, so your band is to carry people and cargo from one settlement to the next.
You are a fledgling, recently turned by the powerful Vamp of the sector, and instructed to learn the ways of protecting the caravans and destroying the undead.
