I recently stumbled upon Metal Gear Rising. It looks soooooooo much fun, but when I put my system specs into a 'can your computer play this game' form its reply was PFFFFFFTHAHAHAHAHA. I wonder if the cost of a DF-geared system + a gaming-level graphics card is more or less than the cost of a DF-geared system + a PS3?

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

dreams, behaviors, it begins! creature, unit, individual? story, simulator, game? aspirations, hopes, opinions, disagreement, conflict, oh wondrous conflict! How you've been missing from the game, but step 2 and 3, both in the new version, oh YES! Differences in culture, that's here now, land disputes, that's coming soon, differences in opinion, coming with it! Stories are made with conflict, conflict is generated by people with differing ideas on actions that should be taken in certain situations, and that's what's coming! The first step to that bit, coming soon! 40.01, 39.01, big, big update, new update, shiny? No, but certainly the best piece of software ever made, soon, culture differences, individual differences, both still! Exciting times, modding times, playing times, observing times, understanding times, find descriptions, update wiki, give life to units! yesYESYES

Putnam, Modder has gone stark raving mad!

-cackles-

I'm going to take care to leave not-dwarven corpses lying around outside my fortresses to unnerve siegers. And I'll probably spend a long, loooooong time in adventure mode.

Wait a week. Toady One tends to fix huge bugs in very little time, so I can only assume that will occur.

I was thinking more along the lines of this legendary champion, all clad in dented and dinged up steel plate, his blood-drenched axe slung over his back, a notch in the handle for every enemy that saw the swing of that blade as the last sight they ever saw, a battered shield strapped over his arm... and a fluffy, pink stuffed hippo hidden discretely in his breastplate.

Look around the forums and wait for someone to weaponize spitting.

About modding, I cannot wrap my head about how awesome all of this is.

Well, I am finally glad that the old adage that a dwarven fortress is built on "tears, blood and sweat" can now be fulfilled, since tears and sweat were just added apparently. This is quite the release from the looks of it.
"You ask: what is our aim? I can answer in one word: losing. Losing at all costs, losing in spite of all terror, losing however long and hard the road may be; for without losing, there is no fun."

@Boltgun:
If spit works the same way as water does, we'll just have a personalized wave gun. It's like launching a water boulder, hitting whatever gets in its path heavily, causing a small amount of damage. If not, we'll have to make spit with syndromes.

EDIT: Apparently, that actually happened, albeit with frozen spit. Check Toady's blog for the 19th.

Already done; it's just a material emission, after all.

Ill visit the new sites added and test climbing and sneaking. I'll probably test the new reclaiming after that. Looking at legends will probably prove interesting too.

Build a fort, retire it and come back a couple centuries later to see how's it going.

Right now I'm planning on staring at the start screen version number in disbelief for ten minutes before I even touch the keyboard.  I think all Bay12 members who survived an inter-release cycle should get a Free Pass coupon for limbo purgatory.  Just skip the wait, go straight to heaven.   :P

What would I do once I start playing the up coming update?
I would first reduce the starting civs population down to 10.
Then start the game at year 2, then make my adventurer (a peasant adventurer btw because I like the challenge)
and try surviving with the civ I am with and help them expand and progress.
Mostly I'll be hunting/ giving them food and protect them from baddies as time progresses. :P

I like to be hardcore with it combine it with the Genesis concept.
I'd start them with 2 (aka adam and eve), but I feel that could lead to problems... D:
I've been wanting to try this, I have a habit of playing god a bit with this kind of stuff and watch stuff evolve and such.
I I wish you can marry and breed with other people, That'd be awesome!

Go on a bug hunt.

Also, start a fortress with no enemies or challenges and let the population balloon so I can read all of the personality data <3

I shall construct a great Ziggurat. At the apex of this Ziggurat shall be the entrance to a staircase. The staircase will lead to a winding catwalk tour of the cavern layers deep into the world. Far below the Ziggurat, just above the magma sea, will be a Great Arena built with many pitfalls and dangers. The greatest engravers shall line its walls with the majesty and glory of my people and the greatest mechanics will create instruments of death that will honor our ingenuity. I shall create various challenges for any siegers who challenge the arena.

I will name both the Ziggurat and Arena "Armok's Hammer" in honor of whom it was built to please. It will be populated by crundles with "Trap door" bridges holding cells full of war dogs and giant cave spiders. Cells holding giant animals I have bartered from filthy elves shall also play an integral part of the ritual. Like the goblins they play their part in the completion of The Hammering. If the elves find war with me more favorable than trade they will come as challengers themselves. I'm sure a horde of naked emaciated elves would serve as a good warm up for any army of goblins looking to seek their glory. I will not allow the challengers to face too much more than they could conceivably handle.

The final challenges shall be forgotten beasts isolated on a far platform by a center platform with drawbridges on either side. When the drawbridges lower the forgotten beast will be loosed onto the challengers. Should they slay the great beasts they will prove themselves worthy of Armok's favor. The Ziggurat constructed above will be dropped on The Arena and all inside will be crushed to dust by the Wrath of God.

Our children and their children will rebuild this Temple until this world is shattered and forged anew. Blood must flow without end or life will cease to be. Armok be praised.
