I started up the game again to see how it changed, and am noticing some annoying glitch. Some buildings are being overlapped by fake walls. The windows/doors/anything with an opening have some sort of texture over them. I am able to walk through them, and exiting the game and reentering it seems to change which buildings are affected.

Anyone else have this problem?

I've had that. Quitting and reloading the game generally fixes it. I've also seen other reports about it.

And now the game is apparently not installed onto my computer?!

At this point I'm actually afraid to reinstall it.

Is it just me or are spears underpowered?

Having no power attack CRIPPLES it and the spear throw that replaced it is extremly situational at best.

Headshots can always stumble, regardless of the weapon I believe. Body shots with the spear are nigh on useless. Limb shots are ok with the right books/perks because they can slow and/or cripple.

That said, pretty much everything in the game seems inferior to the baseball bat and club type weapons. BB swings faster, hits harder than most things short of the sledge hammer, staggers on pretty much every attack once you've got some skill points, has decent stamina consumption.....

I've used almost everything for a full playthrough except clubs/the BB, but my friend ends up rolling with it pretty much every time, and when it comes to melee, he does 90% of the killing.

Yeah, lets see here:

Spears: Underpowered because of previously stated reasons.

Brawling: Um, used it...once? Not that strong, apparently.

Knives:GOOD GOD their range. Also quite useless for combat early game.

Stunbat:Their damage makes me cry, although the mod that makes zombie fly is quite fun. Also the hardest to make out of all the melee weapons. Not only that, but while most melee weapons have three tiers (primitive, iron, steel), these guys only have one.

Sledgehammer:Quite slow and unwieldy, but their damage is just SO SATISFYING. Also the only melee weapon with some sort of pseudo-crowd control ability. Really, it's just out shined by the bat.

Also why won't the devs make tools actually not completely useless for combat?

Probably some misguided desire by the devs to force people to carry more equipment, so one tool can't do most of the non-combat and combat work for them.

But seriously, the steel axe is a fuckin battle axe. It's pretty shameful it doesn't also function as a decent melee weapon. Hell, a high rank augur will actually chew through basic zombie pretty well.

And brawling's biggest weak point is getting stunned. You take a shitload of damage doing brawling and once you get stunned, you're in deep trouble.

Throwing spears into people and then tracking them on the minimap with the spear to find there bases is the most fun i had in multiplayer in a long time in this game. The spear is both displayed on the compass and the minimap.

How much damage does the burning shaft mod actually add (except for the small amount of increase you get when adding any mod)? I mean, everybody wants their weapon !!ON FIRE!! and all weapons with it is cool as fuck and all weapons without it is ugly as shit, but does it really add much damage?

Also you dont get exp if the zombie burns to death.

That's gotta be a bug. I can throw molotovs all day and make crazy amounts of XP.

As for the damage, hard to say. The Darkness Falls mod actually shows zombie health so you could figure it out that way. But vanilla doesn't display that.

Throwing spears into people and then tracking them on the minimap with the spear to find there bases is the most fun i had in multiplayer in a long time in this game. The spear is both displayed on the compass and the minimap.

Ha. That's genius.

Totally been using axe, it's fine I feel?

Doesn't stagger or knock down and has a wonky attack animation that's fine for chopping wood, but doesn't seem to look right when hitting zombies. I have a hard time believing the damage is on par with a comparable-level dedicated melee weapon. Fine for some panic attacks, but not the kind of thing you'd fight a horde with.

What's up with the screamers anyways? My favourite youtuber just went through a level five building, and he headrd and hunted down no less than six screamers. No, they weren't from the actual building, but got spawned naturally.

It's related to game stage. As a perpetual base builder I spend a lot of time around our bases doing work, and I can predict almost like clockwork how many screamers I'm going to get on a daily basis. For the first 1/3rd of the game you don't get any. Then you start getting 1 day. Then 2. Then 3. Then the game just starts throwing multiples of them at a time at you.
