Huh. That's... really cool! Gotta try that. But right now I'm still in a process of just figuring out how to survive for more than one night. I did on my 3rd spawn, built a 3 storey mini tower out of wood frames and put a ladder on it, but as I was running from zeds the next day after exploration trip gone bad, I tried to hide on a roof of one house... but much to my dismay, infected can climb in this game. So that was fun, hehe.

The first tip I can think of is to make a bedroll ASAP so that you don't respawn miles away having to start over.

Aha, a bedroll. Didn't yet discover that one, I think, or I just didn't look hard enough in my crafting screen. Thanks though.

and they will  bash whatever they can't climb if they can't climb to you, zeds are a pest in this game, and make the game so much more convincing. ....and then hornets o god I hate those

Well, it's called Sleeping Bag. You used to get that recipe from the start but haven't played in a while. All you need is enough cotton for about 6 cloth, I think.

Or if you manage to find a bed in a house, pick it up, you can use it as well.

How do you, err, use the bedroll or bed? I'd imagine simply placing it down isn't enough.
Actually, it is.

People are paying attention to this again? nice!

some general tips for survival.

-first thing one should do upon spawning is probably craft a stone axe, followed by a wood bow and then search for feathers to make arrows
-never melee something you can afford to shoot unless you're sure it's safe
-watch your stamina, its level affects how effective tool usage and attacks are so let it regen and keep it high
-aim for the head both at range and melee
-when meleeing(I love how the autocorrect wanted to change 'meleeing' to 'fleeing') pay attention to the ridiculous long attack range and don't go closer than you have to so you can weave in and out quicker
-melee CAN be safe against one or two zeds if you're careful and accurate. Hitting them in t head when your stamina is above 50% will make them flinch, allowing you to weave back out of melee range without them having time to hit you back. Missing will probably get you hit.
-zombies can't see through frames but you can
-firearms are hitscan unlike the bow/crossbow/launcher and can shoot things through frames, bars, or anything that lets you see your target.
-in randomly generated worlds, all ores are within natural cave walls, no use randomly digging around, if you see gravel then it most likely has ore behind it.
-the color of a crafted tool/weapon doesn't really matter, what does is the quality number
-When crafting, the result's quality level will be 10 times your level +-50(it seems they tweaked that and gave it a bit extra in the early levels to make it less of a pain)
-wellness is something to work on once you found/made a cooking grill and cooking pot you should be drinking goldenrod tea rather than water and turn pork into bacon and eggs.

This game got a LOT harder with the last update.  But certainly more exciting!

You forgot corn being the best thing ever. It can grow anywhere, and out of corn you can make cornmeal, which you can make into corn bread. Cornbread is one of the easiest 'good' foods you can make. It just needs water and cornmeal.

Cool stuff, thanks.

Speaking of food, can anyone answer me this: do you have to find the new recipes, can you cook food without one with just the right combination, or both? No need to go into details, a quick yes/no would suffice as I like to discover things myself, but this one has been bothering me.

I haven't played recently so it may have changed, but the only issue I have with cornbread is that it consumes the water and the glass jar used to make it... water's easy enough to get, but glass is a limited (in some cases) resource.

Alpha 12 is out now, as well as 12.1.

Quote
We’ve just released Alpha 12 ‘our biggest build to date’ and I want to tell you it’s one huge mega-shit-ton of new content goodness, bug fixes and more ‘including’: A new badass vehicle system with a Mini Bike that has parts quality, storage and locking. A new sky and weather system with rain, snow, dust storms and dynamic cloudy,  clear and stormy skies, lunar cycles and blood moons. A brand new sexy humidity/height based random gen system with more natural elevations, improved poi placement, cave placement, biome border mixing and new footpaths. A new random gen mixer with full control over custom hub creation, prefabs that spawn and their probabilities.

We’ve also added dynamic ambient audio system with wind, gusts daybreak, nightfall and bloodmoon stingers. A new physics system with new zombie ragdolls, tumbling blocks and explosion impulses. A new right click action menu system with over most in-game actions. A new gun attachment system that supports flashlights. A new alternate ammo system that supports stone tipped, iron tip, steel tip and flaming arrows as well as shotgun slugs. A new leveled loot system. A new bear enemy. Quality on bows, crossbows, augers, chainsaws and all clothing. New Graphics options including motion blur, depth of field, dynamic contrast and tone mapping. A new tree falling system. A new high-res acid puking hulk model. And a new crafting basics category to help players craft the most important items quickly.

Folks there is way too much in this build to summarize so read em and weep unless of course you have time to play then enjoy the hell out of this mega-build!

Anyone playing this that can comment on the current state of the game?  Some buddies of mine snagged some copies while it was just on sale, planning to do a 4 player coop, just want to know about any issues before we start playing (I find games are more enjoyable when everyone's had expectations set ahead of time rather than banging their heads into those issues in-game).
