Hi everyone. I am pretty new to DF and have a question. When my dwarfs are idling, they just go hang out around the wagon on the surface; is there any way to designate a different area for idle dwarfs to gather? I made a room underground that would be good for this, and would keep the giant keas off of them while they are waiting to be put to use. I'm playing on a mac if that makes any difference.

(i) for zones, then (m) for meeting area (if I recall correctly), or make a dining hall by making some tables and chairs, (q) over a table, set the size of the dining hall and designate it as meeting area too

in the short term I use a room smack in between the dormitory and the booze pile, with an airlock to sleepers.  I have had plenty of experience trying to sleep while the party rages on.
