It's fine, I'm sure it won't make that much of a difference. Plus, who knows, Doom might drop out or something.

WELCOME TO SLOAN
Home to the Mother Lode Casino


Is the sign, now dimly lit by a single flickering light as the sky continues to grow darker, that wishes to welcome you into the small mining town of Sloan.

The sign itself is rather large, and stands in the middle of the freeway leading up to New Vegas - and though you do notice lights on the freeway ahead, you also notice it looks like the actual town itself is much further off to your left. You can see the quarry in the distance, and closer than that, a large, well lit, and surprisingly well fortified looking building.
You continue up the road, and it's now that you notice a rather large presence of armed guards just ahead on the freeway. By the looks of it, what looks like it could be some sort of town guard, and some NCR troopers. They're accumulated around both a massive pen filled with Brahmin to the left side of the road, and to the right of that a stop filled with parked trailers and covered wagons. But most of them seem to be up ahead, at some sort of checkpoint built onto an overpass. You watch as a group of travelers ahead of you is sent off down the road to the left and towards the town itself. As you grow closer to the pen you begin to overhear an argument between an NCR Trooper and a man with a large mustache, and an even larger hat.

 "Now, you just wait one minute here son! I can't just go an' turn this caravan back an' go around them mountains!" The hatted man shouts, violently waving an arm around towards the mountains to the East. "I don't have another two days to spend out here in the desert with my thumbs up my ass, we're on a tight schedule here!"

"The road ahead is dangerous sir," the Trooper replies, "And the road back to Jean may be just as much so in the night. Your Brahmin will be safe here, but we'd recommend you head into town and stay there for the night, it-" He continues, before being interrupted.

"Now you're tellin' me we have to stay here? This is about them escaped convicts of yours, ain't it? If you folks over at the NCR could run a god damn, proper prison-" The hatted man responds, before the Trooper notices the group beginning to pass by.

"Wait!" He calls out, "The road ahead is dangerous! I'm going to have to suggest you stay in Sloan for the night - Turn around and travel back to Jean if you need to, but we can't let you beyond this point."

Lizbeth has made it a habit to let others do the talking. However she had a few comments of her own:
"Dangerous at night? and why would it be less dangerous at day? A quicker death in sniper fire? Son, in my days we got rid of convicts. no reason to waste a perfectly good defensible building like a prison on them. What were you thinking?"

Kat's thumb slid her hat upwards on her brow. Her bright green eyes sparkled in the dusk light from under the brim as she spoke to her new group of friends. Hopefully they'd have better luck than the last one...

"...I'd like to point out for the sake of argument, a component of NCR's success in rebuilding is due to not shooting everyone they see-in fact, if you're going to rebuild something instead of just burning it all down, that's the most important part. And they use the prisons for cheap labor anyway, I hear. Works out all round.

Sure, occasionally a bad bunch would be better off dead and buried...but, there's just as many that can change their colors, if given a fair chance. Even if only to save themselves, and that's good enough for these times."
Kat said smoothly, speaking into her group.

"Now, I'm not the sharpest tack in the box, but I'm sniffing out a job here-two jobs, maybe. You all interested in finding out?"

Harvey looks at the group then shrugs.

" Give me a minute and I'll find out what our fee would be for doing his job for him, I don't much care one way or another so if you wanna go kill them thats good with me.

Btw if you see any scrap metal could one of you make a suppressor for my rifle and maybe one for my pistol as well?



Harvey then walks up to the NCR Trooper.

" We can take care of ourselves friend, what would be in it for us if we were to liberate those prisoners heads from their bodies so to speak? Sitting around doing nothing isn't really our style. "

Find out how much we can make for dealing with the prisoners, barter the price up as far as I can and try to persuade him to include access to the NCR armory in the town as a bonus for taking the risks for them if he seems amenable. Or any monster problems they're having.

Elliot listened intently to all sides of the conversation before he chimed in himself, "I think the nice Trooper here is making mention of things... hmmm, what's a good way to put it... Deadlier than a bandit in the night." He then feigned a thinking face with a hand stroking his chin and a sly grin, "Although honestly I would pay good money to see Max go up against a Deathclaw."

Elliot chuckled lightly before he nodded in Harvey's direction slightly, acknowledging his request to ask for a price for the job and his own request to make him a suppressor for his rifle and pistol. Although soon after Takoka also said how she could help out. Elliot personally didn't mind if he made it or not, no need to compete within the group, it would only lead to problems later.

"You know, I've heard plenty about Deathclaws-they're moon demons apparently-patched a few guys tore up bad from what mighta been them-or seen whats left of them-and even fired at things in the dark that certainly looked like they had big claws-but, I've never seen one for myself up close. Which I consider myself fortunate for, based on their description.

Have you ever seen one? Or killed one?"
