What does 'toggle engravings' do?
« on: April 29, 2007, 05:50:00 pm »

Under the (D)esignations menu, what does 'toggle engravings' actually do? I can't seem to get it to do anything.

Before someone tells me that it toggles engravings, remember that we use 'detail stone' for that under the engravings menu.

Try detailing something twice. It makes it "engraved" rather than smoothed.

But engraved walls look like other smbols, ie. an engraving of a dwarf has he smiley face picture.

So toggling the engraving will turn it from the + symbol to the other symbols, and vice versa. It doesn't do anything to smooth floors.

I actually did try getting it to engrave an already-smoothed area, but still it did nothing.

It may be that this is a meaningless command left over from a previous vision.

Um, let me see if I can clear up what melon said.

The command that you're asking about doesn't engrave things - it's a command that toggles if you see engraved squares as a '+' or as a picture of whatever has been engraved.

To engrave squares, designate an already smoothed section to be smoothed again.

So yeah, it does exactly what it's supposed to do.

Ah, I see now. Thanks for the clarity!

It's kind of the last place I would have expected such a thing, because all the other commands in there require a specific area to be designated, but at least I am back on board now.
