Bridge Problems
« on: April 28, 2007, 11:56:00 am »

I am trying to build a 6x7 bridge out of rock blocks. Everytime the mason takes all the materials to the site he always suspends contruction due to pathing problems. The bridge is a basic retract type. All the mats are on the left side of the bridge and he cannot access the right side.

Whats the problem? It's killing my game.

Is there stone /plant /something else on the other side of river that would block building?

Yeah I just figured it out.

I built a small temporary bridge to allow access to the other side and then realized as I watched him to his thing that he needed to move the stones out of the way on the other side of the bridge. I never knew that because all the previous bridges I have built have only been one tile wide so I never ran into the stone-in-the-way-of-the-base problem.

Thanks for the fast response!

Sometimes they 'need' to be on the opposite side of the river to build it.

So build a microbridge so they can get across, first.

I encountered this A LOT.

i generaly build my guardrail bridges first, then the big bridge between them while the smalls are used for crossing, and only then raise the guardrails. lets the dwarves work across the river immediately and requires no deconstruction of temp bridges

I always build a series of small bridges. Then, if a dwarf tantrums and destroys a bridge fewer dwarves will fall to their death.
