Haven't tested to see if it works with just refreshing the page.
Works if you just refresh the page, though that takes longer to load for me, for whatever reason.

This is the same way you can accidentally waste your golden cookie 7x multiplier.

Cookie clicker is kind of like a Skinner Box meets Wonderland. Strange, wonderful, subtly terrifying, and addictive.
