Goblins becoming playable on their own.
« on: August 31, 2013, 04:11:46 pm »

I genned a world made almost if not entirely of evil biomes, so there was nowhere for standard civs to spawn. This resulted in goblins becoming a playable civ without intentionally modding them to be so. Has anyone else seen this happen? My mods were:Playable, winged, flying, variably colored dragons, and everything building human towns. Fortress mode was unplayable (no dwarves) but goblin adventurers worked.

If there are no playable "normal" civs then yes, it is possible to play as otherwise unusable races in adventurer mode.

I'm pretty sure that this is how the Journey of Deebus started, since the genned world couldn't support anything but kobolds.

And if you kill all the goblins? Can you play as trolls?

Probably not, trolls don't have an entity. Might be able to play as cave animal-people, as they have an entity. But I'm not 100% on that.

Do you know the "make anything playable" RAW edit you can do?
Put this right under OBJECT:ENTITY in entity_default
[ENTITY:HAX]
      [INDIV_CONTROLLABLE]
      [CREATURE:TROLL]
Other creatures can be modded in by adding additional [CREATURE:(whatever it's name in the RAWS is.)] I think I heard something about putting hundreds of them in there crashes the game or something.

I modded trolls (and dark/mountain gnomes!) to have their own entities in my game. There are trolls, which are the standard trolls, then great trolls, slightly larger and more intelligent. They're used in two entities: a civilised group of great trolls which live in towns etc. and then a primitive group which lives in caves and is basically equivalent to stone-age humans. All trolls were made a lot smaller since I found that A: wearing armor or carrying a shield as a regular sized great-troll weighed you down like nobody's business. Cave spider silk trousers weighed so much that you could barely walk, and B: mo'fos are just too OP!
Gnomes on the other hand are all cave-dwellers, wield large knives and blow-guns. They steal from your fort and kidnap children, but only Dark Gnomes siege. The gnomes were modded to be a size in between kobold and dwarf, to fit with the style of fantasy gnomes that I prefer (AKA DnD, Warcraft, Forgotten Realms).
