Things you wish existed
« on: August 30, 2013, 04:16:11 am »

An expanded-upon version of the fabulous Games you wish existed thread, stretching beyond the gaming-related media (and media in general).

Ranging from shows to technologies to people, magic and quirky laws of physics, what are the things that you wish existed, but unfortunately don't?

Time travel. Personal time travel, done in such a way that doesn't affect our continuity, so we don't change the tides of WWII just by displacing a chair in the Reichstag or something silly like that.

Probably a long way towards even basics of that, much less when civilians could use it, but hey.
A man can and will dream, right?

A less confusing time travel theory so that I don't get a headache trying to explain something to someone.

Superman style flight is the only thing I can think of right now.

Some sort of device that would allow me to meet different versions of myself. The kind of antics i could have with myself would be awesome. I suppose i could also meet an evil me and things would be less awesome but still.

There are so many things. The ones off the top of my head:

Unlimited life span
No necessity to work
No necessity to eat or sleep (wastes time)
FTL travel
Time travel (who doesnt ;D)
Dragons
A device that programs a computer by reading your mind.
A device that allows you to project mental imagry as art of various forms. i.e. paint with your brain.
3D fully immersive technology
The ability to shapeshift (fuck yeah)
The ability to imagine things in greatly enhanced detail.

(My world would be quite bizzare...)

But my biggest desire:

A device that lets me project my thoughts and imagination as reality, i.e. anything I think up can become real. It effectively makes any other ideas redundant as the device itself would allow for anything and everything... Why wish for X, when you can wish for a device that does everything, including X?

This is when I imagine the hilarity which may happen if certain things are glichy. Such as targeting your own body parts to eat.

You eat your own head
YOU HAVE BEEN STRUCK DOWN!

When you can just wish for omnipotence and be done with it?

Beat me to almost exactly what I was going to post, so I just snipped out a couple of things that didn't really matter to me.  Anyway, FTL, enhanced lifespans, holodeck style environments and the elimination of the need to sleep would be fantastic.

Time Stopping.
Best thing I can think of, maybe would be better with time travel but I'm not sure about that.

Pretty sure that reality would come into play here and stopping time would also stop you, so you wouldn't gain any benefit from it. (also, because you'd be frozen, too, you wouldn't be able to turn the time back on)

Sorry to burst your bubble, mate.
But all of our bubbles are easily burst here, I guess.

Obviosly I didn't mean literally stopping time. Stopping it relative to me. It would still suck though, since I wouldn't be able to do things like hear noise, feel heat, or move through an atmosphere.

Slowing time down could be fun, though.
