I was playing Omerta and I actually like it. It's a better mobster game than I am used to, having owned all of one in the past.

I think I'm missing something important, I keep losing in sandbox because my mandate runs out. I don't know how to have a revolution or what to do when the crown missions dry up. I've researched everything in colonial era tech.

You have to reach 50% approval and have the constitution researched. (Hence why imported revolutionaries help. They're very easy to please in the colonial era)

EDIT: Apparently I was wrong. The constitution tech only increases support. If you get 50% approval beforehand, you can still declare independence.

You should really look to the wilderness for your stealth ideas, it has been doing it much longer than you have after all. Take squids for example, that ink trick works pretty well, and in water too! So you just sneak into the dam upsteam, dump several megatons of distressed squid into it, then break the dam. Boom, you suddenly have enough water-proof stealth for a whole city!

First fail after time travel. Gotta get all the time extensions or you'll probably lose. Guard towers are also good. You'll have money problems for days.

Thanks, I guess I'm going to have to abandon my current game, I only have about 30 approval because there are too many royalists and I've been sucking up to the revolutionaries.

edit: I have no idea how to reach 50% approval. I feel like there's something simple I'm missing about the game.

There is a disturbing lack of actual Tropico 5 discussion in this thread.

I find there are two "easy" ways to increase approval:
The first method is to bribe faction leaders, (but you may have to figure out who the leaders are first via things like agent managers. Not sure if it's even possible in colonial era)
The second is to simply look in the Almanac, then the happiness section, and find the lowest happiness score, and improve the things relating to that. (e.g. If you have a low religion happiness, build some missions)

But for the most part, just keep an eye on the happiness, extend your mandate whenever possible, and suck up to the revolutionaries.

I just beat this game's campaign, as I usually do with all the Tropicos.

It's still pretty good, but I think the previous outing was better overall. There were more buildings, more personalities, more talking heads, more radio chatter, more events, more everything. I miss the people speaking in their native tongue depending on where they came from. I miss the election speeches. I miss your ministers talking to each other. I miss ordering your avatar to run around doing things. This is a bit more sterile and generally has less "stuff". There's even less campaign missions this time around.

It seems to have also gotten easier, though that might be because there's less things to screw up. The resource management game is definitely a lot easier now, but they've made the rebels and invasions an actual threat... though a really boring one. It's fun when you get the aircraft carrier to bomb them with though.

---------

Wiles, you might be better off playing the campaign for a bit first. The first few missions serve as tutorials.
