Adamantine Pick-Any Use?
« on: August 29, 2013, 04:13:18 pm »

Hey, I just got my first pick artifact (made of adamantine to boot), and I was wondering if it would be of any use in my military. I really hope it is. It is decorated with Bauxite half-moons. In other words, blood red half-moons.

picks deal edge damage. adamantine is the best metal for edge damage. you now have a weapon that rivals the legendary platinum warhammer. use with care.

Added bonus, it uses the mining skill in combat. Select a legendary miner and draft them into your military (disable mining first!), then assign them the pick specifically and have them train until their other combat skills match.

Huh. So now I can give my legendary miner baron a cool pick and have him smash in gobos skulls? Cool!

USE WITH WILD ABANDON

(but have a cleanup crew ready if you're fighting anywhere a thief can get to)

see that's what i'm talking about.

a weapon this good should not be used with wild abandon.

such a weapon should be used like a precise scalpel to ensure it doesn't get destroyed or lost.

Pft who needs a scalpel when you've got a pickaxe made of frigin candy.  Just dont use it under an atomsmasher or near a pit where it could be dodged off into an unrecoverable location and your golden.

Atomsmashers can destroy artefacts?

atomsmashers can destroy anything, including creatures usually too huge, but only as long as they are trapped in a cage

They don't so much destroy them as remove them from existence.  Why they're good for getting rid of things you don't want to just break, such as zombies, and trash that's hurting your frame rate because there's just way too much of it to keep track of.

Those can't destroy artifacts either. They can deconstruct them though, leaving them lying around as they'd be left lying around if it were a dwarf doing the deconstruction.

For lesser materials, picks are actually the best weapon available to dwarves. They aren't necessarily in the case of candy, but it should still be fantastic weapon.
