Stop hunters immediately charging elephants?
« on: April 22, 2007, 06:48:00 pm »

I wanted to make one of my original 7 a hunter.  However, the problem is that I also wanted to stop him from hunting immediately, until I could train some dogs for him, otherwise he immediately gets mauled by elephants.

Unfortunately, the first thing he does is attack an elephant and get horribly mutilated.  Pausing as soon as the game starts and then turning hunting off for him does no good, and of course, I can't cancel his job.

Don't bring hunters, escpecially on an elephant map. It doesn't matter how many dogs you train him, he WILL get mauled. Hunting is useless anyway, as of now.

Give him trapping or animal training rather than ambushing. Enable hunting once you are ready.

Draft him (he won't mind since he has marksdwarf skill), turn off hunting, undraft him.

You really don't want to have a hunter around on an elephant map, but on tamer maps hunters seem to gain skill faster than marksdwarves.
