You are a Diesel Punk weapon designer.
« on: August 28, 2013, 06:38:48 pm »

Ok this game in Inspired by the likes of The People's Weapon Design Bureau and The revolutionary design bureau.

Set in a alternate 1920s not too different to our own, you are in charge of designing weapons for the nation of Crohakon.

How ever all is not well out side the borders of Crohakon, for the Callatraeans are biter about our conquest of there northern coast but are unlikely to attack us.
Far more likey is an attack by the Peoples Republic of Kedardovia who have long eyed our bountiful plans with envy.

How ever we have a small advantage over them in the from of a small supply of Unobtainium, which our sciencetist hope to start refining shorty.
Sadly we are prevented from pursuing the avenues of human modification and chemical warfare by treaties from after the war, after all no one wants to see the Techno legion restored.

Before you can start work a pile of folders cover your desk.

And finally a note from Lieutenant colonel Fürst of the 1th special purpose battalion, offering there full cooperation with your work.
Rules
-----------------
1: use metric units, if your still using dinosaur units in your head then use an online converter please.
2: A proposal will be bold text and a unique proposal number.
3: You can put out up to 4 design projects and 4 production proposals each.
4: Favouritism will be to interesting and colour full proposals, not  pages of boring specification.
5:6: every one gets 6 votes for designs and another 6 for production proposals.
7:don't ague about the details too much

major projects and minor projects.
Your design staff is limited in both number and resources so you can only develop 3 major projects and 5 minor ones.

A major project is a new plane or tank, but refitting a tank design with a bigger engine or a diffident weapon is a minor project.

New guns and small arms are major projects but changing or upgraded an existing gun in a minor project, i.e. making a smaller model of machine gun A.
if there is any debate about wherever a project is major or minor, i will be the arbiter.

As you well now Unobtainium ore can be refined in to versus elements mainly:

Regenerierenium, works as a kind of super healing drug, often injected to help prevent limb rejection in cyborgs
Flanteium, Highly Sensitive, toxic but power full explosive, twenty times as powerful TNT on a pound for pound bases.
Auftriebium, lighter than air and as strong a wet paper bag, its main uses are to lighten alloys.
but other elements are in theory possible.

Our currant stock piles are
Liquid Flanteium, 1.5kg.
Auftriebium, ore supplely equal 3cubic metres at 1.146 kg/m3.
our scientists are working on a pure supply of Regenerierenium, but so far and not been met us success.

1. Airship prototype. Small capsule, floating on hydrogen balloon. Single engine. Unarmed, 200 kg carrying capacity
2. Basic landmine. A simple, anti vehicle mine.

Think 1920 with added grime and a touch more of mad science look at this Influence Map for an idea.

I can go with an airship, but while we can rely on horse cavalry for a while longer, some sort of armored vehicle might be called for. Since this is a diesel-punk game, would it be out of place to go with walkers instead of treaded vehicles? (with an unobtanium supply that can lighten alloys, you can get around the square-cube law that makes such designs impractical)

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

1. Airship prototype. Small capsule, floating on hydrogen balloon. Single engine. Unarmed, 200 kg carrying capacitya few fighters with incendiary bullets would blow up a group of these and they can only carry about 100kg of bombs
2. Basic landmine. A simple, anti vehicle mine.he anti personnel mines would be good enough for destroying armored cars because they are normally lightly armored on the bottom and if we are and island nation then anti vehicle mines are almost useless

Hmm... Okay, I'll number my design proposals, and letter the production ones ones.

6) Start designing a light tank chassis. A basic, rather simple design would work best, as we do need to update our forces with new equipment.

7) Start designing a new fixed single wing, enclosed cockpit fighter craft. Armaments for the craft are unnessesary at this stage, as the designers should just get used to understanding basic aeronautics for future projects.

8) Start trying to refine a new fuel out of the unobtainium, one with greater efficiency than most other fuels available to us at this time.

9) Update the lebels by redeisgning them to have larger sights, replacing the tubular magazine with a standard rifle magazine that can be fed via stripper clips

A) Start building trucks to motorize atleast an entire division. Faster than horses, these sould dramatically improve the mobility of our forces.
B) Start to increase the mining capacity of the unobtainium mines, the more material we get from there, the better.
C) Start improving our industrial capacity. Every factory, regardless of the goods it produces, stregthens the economy. And with that economy behind us, we can afford to start outproducing our rivals.
D) Start building up infrastructure in vital areas. The more we can move through those areas, the more efficient our production will be.

False. Besides, it's a prototype for observation. Not a bombing vessel. Airships are the most resilient things to ever fly. Even incendiary bullets can't destroy them (due to the hydrogen being separated from the air, and leaking in way to small quantities to reach ignitable levels). Bringing down an airships involved dumping massive amounts of explosive and incendiary rounds into it, and concentrating fire on a single spots. We can fix this single weakspot because of our extremely light weight alloys.

2. Basic landmine. A simple, anti vehicle mine.he anti personnel mines would be good enough for destroying armored cars because they are normally lightly armored on the bottom and if we are and island nation then anti vehicle mines are almost useless We're not. We used to be a landlocked nation, but recently captured some coastal area. Besides, we don't have antipersonnel mines either.

At the moment, the best type of guidance remotely possible is a gyroscope. With those things, you're happy if it hits the ship you aimed at.

10. Begin experiments with small gunpowder rockets.

I was thinking that if we send a lot of small torpedo boats maybe a few could get close enough to not need guidance
