1) Yes
2) Combination
3) No. Detailed exploration via science or scout fleet works too.

After discovering almost useless star system high command of the alliance decided that pursuit of new systems is senseless and decided to focus on home system and fleet was ordered to come home and FTL drive research was put on halt

Instead massive efforts for exploiting home system started, as scientist stared to work on reducing the cost of ships and money got invested in civilian shipbuilding.

Finally, one admiral got an idea to use might of the annihilators for peaceful goals and proposed idea of using them for terraforming, some scientists found that idea interesting and joined military in their planet bombarding exercises

The Aresyll Command
"If you really need a name for the moon, call it Ore." Trkrer Rtd'Ktar clacked impatiently with his right claw, his displeasure with the scientist in front of him showing - though perhaps only showing for an aresyll. "What I want to know is when the hold-up with the civilian trade fleet will be resolved. Soon, you say? When is soon? Compared to our lifetimes, or to that of the stars?"

Explore Yllidr.
Continue Research into Civilian Trade Fleets
Have the scout group scout out the nearby stars, escorted by a frigate called back from Allaskrt.

Asking just in case:  do my  fleet needs a turn to return in home system from the new system or I can assign it to mission in my home system in this turn?

Fleets can travel and do something in the same turn. Only 1 jump per turn though. (For now)

((Could you give an example of how producing and then benefiting from a worldship might work?))

Have one scout group explore each of the planets suitable for colonization
No other orders

I would imagine it would let you perhaps settle faster, produce things elsewhere and not die the second someone removes your suns.

Working on it, actually. I accidentally miscounted when checking if everyone had posted earlier.

You have mobile colonies. That's about it actually. Not much benefit besides that. Science might upgrade them.
