And so!

After three and half hours of wait, they've set for the city of Elam, deep in Imperial lands.

~~Intermission B: Triumph and Loss~~

Thanks to the mountain crossings and overconfidence of the Empire, the mountains weren't guarded that well. Everyone and everything oft slipped past the border outposts - like Julius and his friends did just now.

They've entered the city of Elam by late afternoon, accompanied by orange sky and the sun setting low. Elam is a bustling trade and religious centre. And, as the travelers soon found out - it was full of festivities...

Off-duty soldiers were dancing with inn maidens while patrons, old and young, men and women, chanted and sung and drank heavily. Streets were decorated with colorful cloths and flags while musicians and bards sung long tales and bawdy songs. Soon the travelers reached the main marketplace of the town which was now made into feasting and dancing stage for the local populace.

That is a strange moment for festivities, though. The closest Draconic festival was over three weeks away from now and the Emperor's Birthday was six months ago.

The townsfolk had some other reason to celebrate so gaudily and lavishly in middle of the civil war - something terribly important must've happened.

Ciera had been walking next to Alec during most of the trip, and now tugged lightly on his arm.

"Uhm... do you want to go shopping with me? I thought maybe... well, I was hoping to maybe find a new sword and now that you can use magic, maybe you could find a new tome if you need one?"

Alec, who was silently clutching his head and only loosely following the group the entire time, disappearing for long periods of time, lowly groaned.
: "Nnhh..."
: "Oh, Ciera?" He lowered his hand and looked at her, his eyes were a bit bloodshot and he was obviously straining about something, "Yeah, sure. Couldn't... hurt."

As the two walked away from the rest of the group, Ciera looked up at Alec and asked,

"Are... are you ok? I mean, you don't seem completely ok, and you missed the wedding and... I want to help if I can!"

[CrimsonEon]

Alec quickly shot to attention.
: "Wedding?!"
Only to quickly recoil back to clutching his head.
: "Urk- ow... Sorry, blasted headache..."
: "I.. know I haven't been around much while we were traveling but, a wedding? Between who?"

"Uhm... Sheila and Leo. They got married this morning. Where were you? Are you sure you're ok? Is there anything I can do to help?"

Fezz took the time to investigate the various shops and quiz some of the less-drunk civilians about what the hubbub was about.

Grifen chose to stick with Julius. Something important seemed to be happening, after all, and some questions needed to be asked.

: "So I've been thinkin'. If we're both descended from some long-ago king, that means we're related, right?"

[CrimsonEon]

: "Between those two? Craaap, why didn't I stick around?! I need to rub it in Leo's fa-... I mean wish them well as soon as possible!"
Alec winced as if another jab of pain shot to his head.
: "Ow... It's just a headache. Too much thinking, too little sleep."
: "I was just out in the wilderness for a bit of time, found a stream, collected my thoughts is all. I'll be alright, I just need to set some things straight then get some rest. Don't worry yourself into a headache like me, they're not nice."

Ciera frowned slightly and then reached up and hugged him.

"Well, why don't we just relax for now, ok? Not worry about anything that's going on, just... relax and have a nice time together, ok?"

Sheila headed around the shops, checking out staves and axes with Leo in tow.

Leo, for his part, seemed quite content to follow his wife around, although his expression seemed to say he wasn't entirely there at the moment.

: "I'll try, but... did anyone say anything about why we came back here? Did Fyra send something?"

Reaching out and taking Alec's hand as they walked together, Ciera nodded.

"Mhmm. I think he's supposed to go meet with someone. He didn't give specific details though, so I don't know for sure."
