Grifen still couldn't speak thanks to the hex, but she grabbed Miguel's shoulder, pointed to her throat, then to her hair, then at the swarm of flying enemies. Hopefully the old man would realize that these men and women might be willing to stand down to an heir of Troy.

"We're trying to fix the Empire before it goes even worse. These children can accomplish that. And for that I have joined them. But I won't make decisions for you, Timon. I've told you all we know, now it's time for you to act on this."

"...men, spur your mounts into a flight. We're leaving." The riders gasped at these words.

"What-?"

"You heard me. We will be leaving. If you wish to try and topple the current Emperor in hopes of saving the Empire, so be it. But don't expect me to switch sides. Goodbye, Alexander." And so Timon von Vaughn, Marshal of Imperial Forces, turned his wyvern around, as his old friend, General Carlinn, stared silently.

The old man quietly released a sigh of relief. They had done it. Amazing. He placed a quiet, fumbling hand on Grifen's shoulder and gave it a pleasant reassuring squeeze. He couldn't have been happier than if it were his own daughter.

Grifen beamed back at Miguel. If the old man hadn't been around, her attempt to get the soldiers to leave in peace would almost certainly have failed.

The scholar released a breath he didn't realize he was holding.

Alec's eye twitched in irritation as he opened his mouth several times, each time in succession becoming more and more annoyed. After a pause he took a deep breath, his expression easing up in relief before pulling his flute to his mouth.

Despite being currently paralyzed, Cyra felt her anxiety lessen. Such a stroke of an occurrence told her that this was something more real than just coincidence. She mentally cheered as she was filled with determination.
