[Blade Master Model 42]

"Woulda been nice if we all could've been there. But now it looks like we're out of other options if we want to put someone we know on the throne." Sheila sighed. This had started as a simple escort mission a long time ago. Now she was helping to assault a castle and stage a coup. It was weird.

Ciera shook her head again.

"No, I don't, we can't trust them. Why are we trusting them? They've been trying to kill us and now all of a sudden they just decide to work with us? I know that we got the blade and everything but this just seems too... too convenient. This is a bad idea."

"We can deal with the eye guy and his methods once things settle down. Look, right now, they want us for something. If they didn't, they'd have killed Julius and Grifen, and we wouldn't be talking about this."

[CrimsonEon]

: "Believe me, Fly Girl. I feel that more than anyone. But the cat's out of the bag, now. They know about Julius and Grifen. If those two go back on their word, it'll get even uglier, unless we can contact them again and renegotiate."
Alec looked up, something seemed to click in his head.
: "Wait. They knew about both of you. What was their plan for the throne?" He directed that at Grifen and Julius.

Leo was going to say something, but then Sheila and Alec both spoke along the same lines before he did, so he continued to lean on the wall and think.

[Furtuka]

"They intended for me to take the throne and to then have Grifen aid in the administration with the title of... Imperial Sister I believe it was?"

"However... we intend to do some reorganization after this conflict is over. I refuse to be someone's puppet once again."

[SeriousConcentrate]

"We need to strike down the cult of the dragon, too. They're too corrupt and too powerful - they would be one of your puppeteers if we leave them be."

"We can replace them with something better."

[Powder Miner]

Efa was actually visibly pleased with this idea.
:"I'm OK with this, actually. I think my views on the Empire are... perfectly clear, and I wouldn't miss the chance to go screw 'em up, PLUS you two on the throne might actually do some good! Yeah, I'm on board with this."
Her face darkened again, however.
:"When I find that Spymaster, though, I WILL kill him. I promise you that, I'll put a couple of arrows between the bastard's eyes myself for Morwen. But I'm okay with the whole attack."

: "About that, Classy-mask..."
: "I won't mince words. In your position, you're a target to many, and a vessel to be won for many nobles to push their ideas. Trust is a rare commodity. Emperors need trust and loyalty from their subordinates if you hope to go anywhere. Otherwise you're going to end up a lot like the one sitting the throne now, if those imperials are to be believed." Alec drummed his fingers on his arm
: "That said, if you're set on this path, you've yet to earn my loyalty. I'm not sticking my neck out for you if you don't at least pay some heed to my, and the others', counsel. I've failed once before by being too soft on a leader who refused to listen. I'm not going to fly into another hopeless battle if that's just going to happen again."

[SeriousConcentrate]

"We can trust Julius."

"But I'm not sure we can trust you. You've admitted you're only in this for yourself, you've tried to run out on us once before, you did a pretty poor job counseling Matilda, and you're threatening to run out again just because things look hard. Honestly you seem like the type of person to play every side against the other for his own profit. How do we know you're not also working with, say, the emperor, and are going to go report to him if Julius doesn't seem like the type of ruler you would rather have on the throne?"

"Whoa, okay, hold on a minute." Sheila moved between Leo and Alec, trying to end a physical confrontation before it began. "Leo, what's wrong with you? Alec was working with Matilda, there's no way he'd be in the Emperor's pocket. That just doesn't make any damn sense."

[SeriousConcentrate]

"Who's to say he wasn't with the empire then, too, and merely keeping an eye on the rebellion for them? The truth is we don't know much of anything about Alec."

[CrimsonEon]

: "A Priest of the Church that's been at our heels and you claim yourself better?!"
: "Tch." Alec shook his head.
: "For once I'm being honest, here. I want the Emperor off that throne. But face it, there's a large number of plays going on here that are working against this merry band. I've warned Matilda that an Imperial Commander was likely on their way. She ignored me. I've warned Matilda that killing him would sour the rebellion in everyone's eyes. She decides to go Hail Mary and fight an army on her own. And the moment I actually take any action to correct her, we're all labeled traitors."
: "Meanwhile, Julius has parleyed with the enemy, the ones who have either condoned or outright sent aberrations of magic at us, and agreed to bust down the Empire's front door in a massive coup without ascertaining their motives, or even consulting the rest of you. From a certain point of view, and I certainly don't want to play devil's advocate here, it could even look like he's assuming you would throw your lives against spears for him."
: "Furthermore, why does trying to fucking ask for some caution in considering the Empire's word count as evidence that I'm their agent?!"

[SeriousConcentrate]

"I never said it did. I'm merely noting that you seem awfully eager to have Julius's ear once he has the throne, and are threatening to leave if he doesn't play by your rules. Which is consistent with how you've acted in the past."

"If you were paying attention you would have noted that I, too, think this is a bad idea, but it's our only option. I may not like the idea, but I trust Julius to speak for all of us. I was once the leader of this group, before he was revealed as royal blood, and I know what it's like to have to take responsibility for the lives of people you care for. It's harder than you think, and I trust him to have agreed to this because it was the best choice he could have made."

"As for your final point, from what I heard from Candy, it was his brothers that were sending the aberrations of magic against us. It's the Divola family we're going to have to pay back for that, and the members of the church that support them. And while we're on that subject, I said not even five minutes ago that the church is too corrupt and too powerful. I've been saying for awhile now that it needs to be gotten rid of. I haven't claimed myself as a priest since I've known what they were really like. If you want to use something to undermine me, I'm afraid you'll have to look elsewhere."

"Can we all please calm the fuck down? Look, I know both of you have the group's best interests at heart. Leo, Alec is right about Julius. He is not a perfect leader, hell, he trusted Matilda! Sorry Julius, no offense. The important part is that his heart is in the right place, Alec. And Grifen and probably more than a few of us are going to be around to help him make tough decisions. Or kill members of spy groups or the church."

"We all need to focus on what is directly in front of us right now. Specifically, a castle full of elite troops that are gonna try to kill us. Once the old emperor is dead, we can worry about what goes on with the new one. Because if we duck out now, neither Julius or Grifen is getting another shot at the throne."
