Sheila finally broke the hug. "Yeah, you're right. Think they're back at the inn yet?"

[Swordstar]

"Dunno. Can't hurt to look."

"Well, let's go then." Sheila led the way back toward the inn the group was staying in for the night.

[Furtuka]

Playing into the hands of...  "Oh goddammit..." Julius quietly whispered.

He went running after Alec. Trying to get his attention.

"Alec wait!"

"You- you were right. We screwed up."

[CrimsonEon]

: "Yeah. Pretty much." Alec kept walking, "We're discussing this at a more secure location. You know, with other people who've actually had your back for the last few months."

[Sirus]

Grifen winced at Alec's tone.

: "Sorry..."

[Haspen]

Once they got to privacy of inn rooms, Alec gave thorough verbal berating that left Julius shrunk into his clothes like a little kid caught on stealing candy.

It was past midnight, and everyone was awake - the group had to discuss the whole thing.

Ciera was sitting on one of the beds furthest from Alec, slightly in shock at the news.

"So... so we're really just going to... to charge the castle? This is it? I... I don't know how to..."

Sheila was leaning against a wall, arms crossed over her considerable chest. "And we're stuck doing this? No alternatives now that we're... Siding with the imperials to kill the emperor? This seems like the bloodiest possible option."

[Sirus]

: "Wasn't exactly our idea. These fellas seem to really want to take the emperor down. Heck, they might have done it already if they had someone who could take the throne."

Having explained the situation to the rest of the group, Alec simply sat in a chair, massaging his temples.
: "...And now they do. Seems the emperor got too uppity and petulant for their tastes."
: "'Lil Miss, do you remember who was in on that meeting? You said Fyra was there, but who else?"

"I don't have a problem offing the emperor. By all accounts he's a real piece of work. I meant more with going through the front door and murdering everyone in our path. I thought we agreed we didn't want to do that sort of thing anymore! Besides, we aren't an army, even if we fight like demons. How are we gonna take out all the soldiers in the castle? We aren't that good. Didn't you say we were getting wizard backup? Any idea how many?"

[Sirus]

Grifen first responded to Alec.

: "Yeah, I think I do. There were a couple of fellas from the army, General Carlinn and Captain August. Some really old mage called Torriani."

: "...and one fella callin' himself the Spymaster. 'Parently he was the one sendin' assassins after us and the Duke of Masalla. The others didn't seem to like him at all, and I don't either!" She decided not to tell her friends about the man's implied threat. They had enough to worry about as it was.

: "The magister just said 'quite a few', Sheila. And I think the others will be having their troops busy elsewhere."

[CrimsonEon]

Alec's eyes narrowed when Grifen mentioned the spymaster.
: "Figures. Well, this reeks by any standard."
: "To his credit, though, he didn't decide to off both of you then and there."
: "So if he didn't do it then... What does he stand to gain by getting us to commit to this? And, was he responsible for all the forbidden magics, and those... revenant things sent at us?"
He sighed, irritated.
: "Blast it, I should have been there..."

Ciera shrunk into herself at Sheila and Alec's comments. She hugged her knees to her chest and shook her head.

"No no no. Why are we doing what they want, why are we trusting the man who sent those... those terrible things after us? The magic, Efa's sister... no. I don't want anything to do with them."
