Leo looked down.

"I suppose it doesn't matter though, does it? Real or imagined, its followers definitely seem evil."

Boy, Candy had to think about this. Really stretch his brain. The idea of worshiping something you've only heard of to such an extent that you'd kill was a totally new concept! But now a lot of things kind of started to make sense. Sure, Amana was the head of a cult, but he always claimed he was "gifted" his authority as a prophet, and people always seemed to understood what that meant. Similarly, Leo didn't actually fly around on a big dragon or breathe fire. He made a few funny thinking faces then beamed.

: "I think our situations are kind of different. When I went off to complete my quest, I met an apparition of the Great Fairy at the Fountain of Purity, and she gave me cool fairy powers. That's enough for me to know this stuff is real, and even though I'm still just a dancer kid with fake wings, someone judged that to be enough."

: "You're right to leave the cult, even if Sheila isn't involved. Maybe one day you'll get to talk to the Dragon, but it's sure not gonna be through some other person! Something I've learned about weird spiritual stuff is that it takes lots of hard work. You don't get anywhere by sitting around, listening to other people tell you about Precepts and Laws. Even though there's churches and cults and friends, in the end it's just you, climbing the mountain alone, unsure what waits at the top. I'm pretty sure that's how people become Great Fairies or whatever! If they were just raised or born that way, well, that wouldn't be really fair to their followers, would it?"

: "I hope you figure out all this weird stuff. Most people aren't really interested in it, even mages. But next time a squirrel stops and looks at you funny, and gives you an acorn, remember that that's what's really real, and it's the only sort of thing you can be sure of. Maybe say thank you to the squirrel! It sounds silly but it's probably a better use of your time than following some evil death cult."

(OK I'll admit I chuckled at the squirrel. )

"I suppose you're right. No one is going to pull my weight for me; they have to worry about what's coming over the horizon for them. Everyone has enough to worry about keeping their own heads above water. I'll figure this out on my own time."

"So you... actually met a Great Fairy? What was that like?"

Leo reached over and touched Candy's wing to see if it was actually fake. It looked real enough to him.

: "It was great! She was kind of ugly, which happens when you get really old I guess, and she spoke in a language I didn't understand, but also I did understand, like it was our language only much older and more different? Kind of makes you wonder about all these creatures that are supposed to have existed way back at the beginning of history, you know? Like, if they're still around somewhere, I wonder if we would even recognize them!"

[SeriousConcentrate]

"Huh. Well, this castle is before the wars. Maybe we'll find some info on mythical creatures here if we look around a bit. Having some answers to SOMETHING would be nice."

"Wait. If those wings are fake, how are they staying on? I don't see any string or harness or anything..."

: "Must you ask? It's obviously magic. Or are you implying your past mop hair was held in its glorious lionsmane shape through mundane means?"

"It... was? I mean, I just let it do as it would aside from washing it..."

Fezz left his twin and Candy to talk, seeing as it was a private subject, and moved closer to the source of the commotion.

Move to (10,6) (unless I'm mistaken if levitation reduces the movement cost of the poison swamp and instead move to (10,5))
