Leo raised a hand briefly in greeting.

: "Yes, well, I would give you an even longer spiel, but I think Ciera covered it."
Alec shrugged and scratched the back of his head.
: "In any case, glad to see you aren't moping whenever there's a little bump in the road, hehe."

Alec raised his hands up disarmingly.
: "Nothing, nothing. Just an observation."
: "Fairly sure the slime-monsters are a bit more important right now anyhow."

"Yes, that is true. We'll let them come to us, where we can deal with them together."

"I dunno... Probably not. Knowing more about proposals wouldn't really help me, since I want him to be asking me, not the other way around." A few moments passed by as a couple of thoughts slotted into place.

"Hey wait a second, your mom and dad's proposal? I thought people did arranged marriages where you're from. A proposal would be kind of weird, wouldn't it?"

: "Well yeah, it was pretty weird. See, ma ain't from Masalla at all, she's from Mieros. She came to Masalla tryin' to rescue a friend of her's who got kidnapped by slavers, and she met my pa who helped her out."

: "From the way ma tells it, they pretty much hated each other at first and never wanted to see each other again. But they got the slavers all riled up and the whole mess snowballed into a conflict between some Kretosian criminals and the plainsfolks. Eventually ma and pa were able to kill the leader and most of her commanders, and everyone assumed that pa would visit the matchmaker after the battle."

: "Instead, pa proposed to ma. And I was born about eight months later!"

Grifen's somewhat condensed tale of dashing heroism and thrilling heroics were filtered out in favor of points that Sheila's brain considered to be of greater import. "But Grifen, this is great! If your dad didn't have his match made for him, there's no way he'd disapprove of you finding your own man! Especially considering what a great guy Fezz is!"

: "Ain't what my pa thinks that I'm worried about. See, he only got away with proposin' because they won a big battle and he got chosen to be the next clan leader. There were plenty'a folks who didn't like the idea at all, and the fact that ma was foreign didn't help. Pa tries to stay traditional when he has to, otherwise some of those folks might try to...what was it ya said could happen on a pirate ship? Moo-tiny?"
