After a moment has passed, Charles returned with Duke Sepin in tow. He was unscathed and looking well.

"Splendid work out there lovelies!" He clapped his hands twice in glee. "I'm very grateful for saving my life. We're close to morning, so you should use those two or so hours to finish your sleep and calm down from this unfortunate nightly encounter. Charles will take care of the... evidence." Then, in a spinning way, he got himself nearby Fezz.

"Say, shaggy one, did you decide on the route?"

Julius wandered through the halls his sack of loot in tow. Eventually he came across Alec crouching over... a pile of dirt?

"...what exactly happened here?"

Clapping his tome shut, Alec stood up. He sighed in frustration before answering Julius in a blunt and straightforward fashion.
: "Small contingent of Imperial assassins led by a sniper. The sniper... was Efa's sister."
: "Ciera took the burden of eliminating her before any of us could restrain her. Turns out though, she was a revenant or something similar, like Duke Kretos." Alec sighed again and packed his tome away, "I don't know what to make of any of this."

"She gave up her soul to the empire? Having kin do something like that... it must be hard on Efa. No wonder there was a commotion."

Fezz sighed as the last foe fell, happy that at least it was over. He moved to join the others before something wrapped around him and held on tight. It was the nomad, but something was wrong. As she cried into his cloak, the man held her close and was silent, resting his cheek on her head softly. The historian didn't know what happened, but judging from the looks of everyone else, it mustn't of been good.

When Sepin arrived Fezz was still comforting Grifen. He glanced at the duke but didn't move to address him right away, his priorities right now on Grifen. He still gave an answer, none the less. "...The forest route, it will cover our advance until we get there."

Having pulled her axe free from the corpse of the hexmaster, Sheila turned to see Miguel mercifully no longer going absolutely bananas. She followed the older man, guessing how he might be feeling right now. "Hey Miguel, you alright? Feeling okay after all that?"

: "I have a slight hunch that might not have been the case. Whatever process is at work here, odds are it can be done unwillingly. But then again, that may just be my history talking." Alec looked down at the dust pile, face scrunched, "But I guess we won't have that answer anytime soon."

"If it is so, then damn the fiends. The sooner we get rid of the emperor the better."

"Did the enemy say anything hinting at how she became one of those things?"

"Good, very good. I will leave you two now." And he did retreat away, only to get nearby Alec and Julius.

"A thorough investigation, hmmmm?"

"Ah, yes. Apparently one of the enemy was inhuman."

Julius suddenly had an idea, and scooped up some of the dust in a spare pouch.

"Inhuman? What do you mean? How?" Suprisingly, Duke's voice dropped a little for a split-second.

Alec blinked.
: "Nothing. There was only a slight hesitation when she declare intent to kill Efa. I tried to pry that for everything it was worth, but I didn't even get a flinch." The bard scratched his head, "You- er, may have heard me yelling."
Alec looked over as Duke Sepin approached.
: "The investigation is necessary. The pile of dust here was a revenant of the sibling of one of ours. Or at least, a reasonable construct in her likeness. I don't think she was with the empire before, but I need to ask around to be sure."
Alec raised an eyebrow while watching Julius scoop some dust.
: "I, uh, personally was going to ask Efa before doing that."

"Some sort of undead beast like what the old Duke Kretos had turned himself into, from what I've been told by Alec here."

He stowed the pouch away in his pack.

"I'll bring this to Matilda. Perhaps one of our more magically inclined allies can divine something about their nature from it."

Alec's eyes narrowed at Julius' last sentence.
: "I'd be careful about that, classy-mask. That stuff could hold heavy secrets that could be out of Matilda, or the rest of the rebellion's... moral ken. I'd say we do the research ourself, maybe involve a couple trusted third parties if necessary."

Julius looked at Alec suspiciously.

"And what exactly do you mean by that? They're our allies aren't they? Any knowledge that could help fight the empire would be a boon to our cause."
