"The wrong-"

Julius had a very disappointed look on his face

"But it sounds like quite an interesting story..."

: "I showed up at the warehouse at six on the dot. Big Daddy wasn't there. I knew what was gonna go down here. Before I could move my hand, a wild pink spitfire was on me like a hound to a hare. A crash. Glass shattering. Strong wind. He'd pushed me out, and I was fallin' to the hustle and bustle of city traffic below. I thought, 'is this it for the Candied Eye?' With seconds left before I hit a buggy, I reached for the Gum Gun and took aim. A gas light took the hit, but I kept on falling. With the ground just inches away, my view turned one-eighty. I was circling 'round the lamp on an extra-long wad of super-sticky gum. Damn, this thing was a good investment. The spin slowed, and I hit the ground, coattails flowing. No time to spare. I brushed my coat off and looked around. I was in front of Grand Central near the big bushes. Manna wouldn't have come 'round without a backup plan. Sure enough, four Inquisitors emerged from the dark and started spinning their staves. No matter: I broke them with a well-choreographed Breakdance. They don't call it that for nothin', you know."

"I'll uh... leave it be for now I suppose. If it helps, I've been transcribing his words since the fifth sentence or so."

Julius held up his notebook to show it, scribbled between diagrams of how to fight with a chair, and what seemed to be part of a cliche story of questionable quality about a young prince reclaiming his throne.

Sheila was already in full retreat, with Grifen in tow. Ciera just needed to be honest with Alec about her feelings! It'd worked for her and Leo!

Efa facepalmed after this particular spiel, her nonsense-filters thoroughly clogged, and muttered to herself:
:"Bah, that was probably the straightest answer I'll ever get. Why do I bother trying to have a serious conversation? I knew I'd fail."

: "With the old team back together, I had no choice. It wasn't safe here anymore. A bigger man may have stayed, tried to break their hold on this dirty city, but cowards live longer. I made for Kretos overnight. It was a new city, new life. Maybe I could finally settle down there. Start that dance tutorin' business I'd always planned for but never had the time. These scars on my soul... they're my guilt for goin'. Amana's crime ring was left to Troy without a Candied Eye to stop him. Now you know."

Candy snubbed the pixie stick, dropped it, and mashed it into the floor with his foot, and turned around.

: "Actually none of that happened. But it was a good story, right Efa?"

Julius started clapping.

"That was an interesting style. Did you make it up on the spot?"

"So what DID happen, Candy? I'd like to know how you were abducted by those bandits our team rescued you from, way back when."

Efa groaned, face still behind her hand.
:"I hadn't really been looking for a story, Candy."

While Grifen was thankful for the temporary distraction, her thoughts returned to the fact that Fezz was still missing. She hoped that the Duke hadn't done anything bad to him...

Candy nodded to Leo, finally relenting.

: "My brothers, Manna and Amana, were supposed to be military, but they sort of formed an evil temple as we grew older. Maybe that doesn't make sense? Amana comes up with apocalyptic prophecies like generals or dukes dying, and they usually happen. I've always thought that Manna would 'enact' these prophecies, assassinating the people to make him look real. Sometimes I wasn't sure, though. Sometimes there was stuff no one person should have been able to figure out, even with help."

: "For example: I left Troy because I was discovered. Amana had just written to our father about a treason in our midst, the practice of 'old magicks.' I was supposed to train to be a scribe, but I would go every chance I got to a run down to the dome and dance to the morning sun. One day - and this was after their prophecy  - the inquisition showed up. I don't know how they found me, but they accused me of 'old magicks' and rushed off to tell Amana. Back then, I didn't know anything about the way cool magic properties of fairy dancing. I had to get away pretty fast. No one likes the last kid out of the bunch. They're usually smaller and weaker and generally not trusted. Like me."

: "In the forest, I was taken in by a crazy old drunk fairy guy named Tinkle. He taught me the ways of the fairy and how to build and use a still. Both very valuable things! Unfortunately when I set out on my own I got kidnapped. They figured I was a merchant or something with all the booze Tinkle had sent with me. Morse treated everyone bad but they still liked him. Then you guys found me! And now we're here."

Alec sighed and rustled his hand through his hair.
: "Not the best way to leave things, Sea-legs. Try some tact sometime."
The bard chuckled as he shook his head.
: "I guess she's just using what she's learned, though. Mop-top must've taken my advice."
: "How're you feeling, Fly Girl? Don't feel broken up about the wound, I've been through far worse."
