: "We, uh, ain't exactly been paid fer followin' bosslady around. We got surrounded by a buncha fellas in armor and told to follow her or get killed."

[Swordstar]

"Well, I... I hope that things go well for you all. You all helped the Duke, so... If there's any way I can help you, let me know I suppose. I'm sorry that some of you feel forced into this. It... It doesn't seem right that anyone should be forced into something like this. But... If nothing else, I am glad you helped Duke Yonn. He seems like a good man. Better than the old Duke."

[Sirus]

: "Dunno much about the old duke other than he had some nasty dark magic and apparently was already dead or somethin'...so I guess His New Dukeness probably would be better, right?"

Alec flinched at Grifen's comment.
: "I was hoping you'd leave out that little detail."
The bard shook his head and looked back at Ciera.
: "With us or no, just remember, you're not doomed to be stuck guarding a dusty castle if you don't want to. Look for other assignments if you're still set on serving Duke Kretos."

[Sirus]

Grifen gave the bard a puzzled expression.

: "The one about gettin' recruited, or the one about the old duke bein' evil and stuff?"

[Swordstar]

"I... I tried to get other assignments. But, I've been kept on either messenger duty or guard duty. Only reason I'm here right now is because I could fly and keep up with all those riders and I was around when he was looking for people. Ever since my parents gave me into the Duke's service, that's what I've done. I don't... Don't know how much they trust me to do anything else I guess. After seeing how I fought this battle, I guess I can understand."

[Blade Master Model 42]

"Man, anyone would be better than the old Duke. Slavery, backstabbing, trying to kill his own family? Total snake, I'm glad Fezz offed him."

"...Hold up. Gave you into the duke's service? Are you- You're not a slave, right?"

[Swordstar]

"What?? I, no! I just... All I was good at was playing with weapons, so they gave me to his service. I don't... I don't know how to explain it beyond that. I guess I was like an apprentice sort of? They trained me, and now I work for him. I get paid and everything."

[Sirus]

The nomad gave Ciera a pat on the shoulder.

: "Aww, ya can't let somethin' like a couple of missed shots get'cha down. Ain't this yer first real fight? I spent most of mine hidin' behind trees or patchin' folks up who were hurt. And Efa's shots don't always work out ok, but she kept practicin'!"

[Blade Master Model 42]

"Oh! Okay, good." Apparently Sheila was content with Ciera's explanation. "So anyway, I'm Sheila. Nice to meet you. And thanks for the back up earlier, we were a little hosed."

[Sirus]

: "Oh, shoot! Thanks Sheila, I completely fergot my manners."

: "The name's Grifen! Thanks fer helpin' out back there."

[Swordstar]

"Oh, uh, right. I'm Ciera. Ciera Zephyr. And it's the Duke you should be thanking, not me. He's the reason I'm here after all. But uh, I don't know, I think you might have had it handled without us. You guys are really good at fighting."

[Sirus]

: "Eh, I dunno. Without them troubadours of Yonn's I bet we woulda been in a lot of trouble. Only got so much medicine in our bags and Leo's got no healing staffs."

Sheila chuckled, puffing her chest out. "Yeah, I guess we're pretty good." Of course, by 'pretty good' Sheila meant 'flat out amazing'. "I gotta say, I never thought I could perform as well as I did on the field today. Grifen's right though, we could have been in serious trouble if it weren't for those healers."
