Alec swiftly clicked his flute back into its case, and immediately pulled the leather bound book out of his pack with a sigh.
: "Hrh..." Cracking it open, he rapidly tabbed through pages until settling on a couple of interest, flipping back and forth while scanning them hastily.

Ciera nudged her pegasus towards the ground, landing with a slight thud. She slid off his back, and sighed slightly. Running a hand through her hair, she walked over to where Yonn was standing. She saluted him and asked,

"Sir. Is there anything more you need me to be doing right now?"

[Sirus]

Grifen rode back to the group, hardly noticing the arrow stuck in her leg.

: "We...we did it! Holy carp, somehow we drove 'em off!"

: "We're not out of the woods yet." Alec held his book open towards him in one hand and approached Matilda and Yonn, "Matilda, I need to see that letter you got from the pegasus rider earlier."

Candy hovered round the battlefield muttering to himself.

: "Golly! Look at all the bodies! We did this? Little ol us? If I'm a fairy, I'm not a very good fairy. A good one would have been able to prevent this in the first place... maybe this is how Fezz feels."

Julius gave a grimace thinking of his own contribution to the battle, before smiling with the others.

"We did didn't we. Clearly the heavens smile on our cause."

[Haspen]

"I have it here..." Yonn waved hand at Ciera and moved to Matilda.

"The letter is allright, I suppose. I checked the envelope and the wax seal is different than the one used by Mireos... here." He handed the crumpled envelope to Matilda. She looked at the seal, and then handed it to Alec.

"..." Her cheeks flushed slightly in shame.

Alec could inspect the seal and with enough staring, he could notice that the tiny star etchings of the Mireosian coat were actually rectangles; Duke Mireos' has four-pointed stars in his crest, not such simple shapes. The duchal signet would easily make such marks, but this seal was cleared forged.

"It's all Yonn's fault."

"Apologies, but checking wax seals is low on my priority as a newly ascended Duke with corpse-filled castle to clean!"

Ciera frowned slightly as she was waved away but nodded. Walking away she went to go check on her pegasus, fiddling with the javelins attached to his saddle.

Gee Mazin... I guess I didn't do so well this battle. Probably just going to get stuck back on guard duty after this. Oh well. At least... At least I got to help these nice people."

Alec sighed and ran his hand through his hair.
: "I let my guard down for one day..."
Alec quickly tabbed his book to another page.
: "Direct communication from the Duke would be excusable but..." Lowering the book lower, anyone looking at the pages could clearly see a frighteningly massive set of letters organized like a sort of cipher, "Were there any other letters or affects with the messenger? Aside from the gold?"

"None. But when I noticed the discrepancy, I had the rider questioned. After an hour I learned the truth and rushed to join you."

[birdy51]

: "Hohohohohoho! Victory is ours! And... Oh! Fancy lad!"

Miguel wheeled his horse and rode over to where the pink-haired lad was... Doing whatever strange pink haired lads do. He looked alarmed at the wings, but thought better of questioning the situation. He made a great show of pulling out the small chest of gold from the Duke of Kretos' coffers.

: "You near let me forget lad, I owe money for the arena! With which I was able to buy knives! Come here. I want to show you what our investment has wrought!"

He opened the chest, revealing the gold and shiny baubles that lied within.

: "So the rider was one of theirs... And they may have gotten our cipher to boot."
Alec closed his book and groaned.
: "Damn it, everything's compromised and we're in the dark. I'm going to have to pull up the entire network for this, if I even can."

[Sirus]

Grifen passed by the bard as he spoke, catching some of the strange things he said.

: We're in the dark? But the sun's still out...

Candy nearly forgot about everything.

: "Wow, Mister Miguel Sir! Um, I'm not sure I understand the investment, but either way, it's very impressive! Are you going to keep the jewels and start Traveling Mercenaries Inc. or sell them off for equipment?"

Alec opened his pack and deposited the book back in with a 'fwump'. He took a couple deep breaths while staring off into the distance in thought.
: "I'm going to need a lot of parchment and ink. That, or we're going to need to get back to Mireos as soon as possible."
