[Blade Master Model 42]

Sheila took the offered handkerchief after staring at it for what felt like a long moment and dried her eyes with it. She murmured thanks, then was silent for another long pause. "It's my fault. I decided to go after something I couldn't have and I'm stupid for not realizing it wouldn't work sooner. I'm just a thug. Nothing more."

[Sirus]

: "Well, I wish ya didn't have to snap it in half like that but I'm glad yer eye's all better now."

: "Um. Maybe ya don't wanna answer this, but how'd ya go half-blind? Were ya born like that?"

[Powder Miner]

Efa was still in a glowing mood.
:"Eh, yeah. No traumatic blinding accidents or anything, just kinda unlucky when I was born, I guess."
She shrugged.

Miguel frowned. It was like raising his daughter all over again.

: "Well well... Was this "something" important to you?"

"I'm pretty sure it is. I don't want it to be, but it is." Sheila sighed. How the hell was this going to work anymore? She had worried that Leo wouldn't feel for her what she did for him... But her most morbid daydreams hadn't prepared her for the ache she felt in her chest now.

[Sirus]

: "Ah, I see. Er, no offense."

Miguel looked back towards the hall and everyone else. It was slowly occurring to him that he was ill-suited for this endeavor. He had only known this girl for... What? A few days at most? Perhaps he should... He bit his bottom lip. No. Something was bothering this girl. He could hardly leave her go in this state now.

: "Hmm... Permit me a moment old age senility. You are upset because you sought an important prize that was not yours to claim because you're nothing but a thug. But I cannot remember the last time I've seen a mere 'thug' cry."

[Powder Miner]

:"None taken! Wow, I'm actually cheerful for once, how 'bout that?"
She paused, and snapped.
:"OH! I bought some armor that I never bothered to try on, might as well! You know, go all the way with the appearance change, not half-ass it."

Fresh tears flowed. "I'm a mess of contradictions, Miguel. Adding one more to the list won't make much difference one way or the other." Sheila wiped her face with the handkerchief again. "I just... I need a minute to get it together. Then we can go find out what Matilda wants. I can't cry in the hall all day."

[Sirus]

Grifen didn't really get it, but it was so rare to see Efa in a good mood that the nomad simply nodded and smiled in response.

: "Well, if that's what ya wanna do then go ahead! Fezz and I'll go look fer some more people while ya change, and we'll see ya in the audience room later. Sound good?"

Efa took off, and Grifen wandered the halls for a while longer before conceding defeat. She found her way into the audience chamber where an unfamiliar figure waited.

: "Uh...who's the fella in the fancy robes? He looks familiar."

[SeriousConcentrate]

Leo looked up at Grifen's voice.

"...I would have hoped my hair wasn't THAT distinctive. I see I was wrong..."

The saint sighed.

"Good day, Grifen. Hopefully yours is going better than mine."

Miguel shuffled his feet awkwardly. Come on. You've gone and upset the poor gal. He had to get the horses in her head back to moving in the right direction. He folded an arm around her.

"There there... You're right... You can't cry all day. But you're allowed to cry. You should cry. There's no shame in it after all. Heavens know... I've shed my fair share of tears."

"Now... Let's have a look shall we."

Taking one hand her gently tilted her chin up until he was absolutely certain that he could see her eyes.

: "When I look into your eyes, I don't see this thug you speak of. Your eyes lack that sort of toughness necessary for the job of being a thug. Frankly, I'm quite certain that she doesn't exist outside of your own head."

: "What I do see is a young woman. One who is confident and strong, but is also capable of being human. Sheila, you are selling yourself short by thinking that the whole sum of your personality is that of a brutish creature. If you need further evidence, look into my eyes. You'll see yourself reflecting back."

[Sirus]

Grifen nearly fell over in surprise.

: "PREACHER?! I-I didn't even recognize ya! What happened? Ya disappeared fer the past couple of days and now look at ya!" The nomad rubbed her eyes and looked again, half-expecting the priest's new appearance to be a sleepiness-induced hallucination. But nope, there he was.

: "Sorry to hear yer day's not going so well...anything I can do?"

[SeriousConcentrate]

"Unless you can start the day over from when I woke up, not really. But thank you for offering, Grifen."

She had commented on his clothes, and he lifted the hem of his blue cloak.

"Apparently this is the style for important young priests in Kretos. As a saint I'm supposed to look respectable, or so I hear. I don't think I've been living up to the title."

[Sirus]

: "Uh. No, I don't think I can do that. Sorry...do I have to stop calling you "preacher" now? Maybe "yer saintness"? Sorry, I ain't really sure how you church types like to be addressed."

: "But, uh, ya sure look spiffy now ^{_{even if I liked the long hair better}}! Respectable and stuff."
