Sonja smiles with failing assuredness.

: 'Trouble seems to have a way of finding me lately, it seems.'

With a graver, quieter tone, she continues:

: 'But this...I mean, are you mercenaries? What is this deed to which I offer my service in grateful return for saving me?'

The bard scratches the back of his head.
: "Hm? You don't need to worry about that, I think." Alec glanced over at Matilda, still talking to Grifen, "We're not exactly mercenaries, per se."

Alec shrugged and pulled his face back into his normal smirk, if only for a moment.
: "F'ya ask me, just enjoy the fact you're still alive after all that ruckus."
: "Some people don't have the luxury."

[Reverie]

Sonja nods.

: 'I hope whatever this is can be settled peacefully.'

[Haspen]

"Look," She glanced to the sides.

"Actually I don't trust Yonn a tiny bit more than before. Ride with him, listen carefully to what he is talking with those others, and at first sign of betrayal, I want you to shoot him in the back. And then make a run toward us. Understood?"

[CrimsonEon]

Alec blinked.
: "Y'know, I think there was a group of cavaliers from behind us that were chasing you, right?" Alec crossed his arms, glancing over to Matilda again, "They didn't look like they were with our ambushers. A bit too... Under-equipped for it. Did something else happen?"

[Sirus]

Grifen blinked.

: "Uh. No offense, but why me? I ain't really the spyin' sort."

[Reverie]

Sonja pulled an arm out of her cloak, tome in hand.

: 'I was practicing.' Her arm disappeared under the cloak again.

: 'I don't think magic is appreciated everywhere, least of all loud electric displays.' Sonja shrugs.
'This is my first time away from home, and I know very little about what goes on out here. You might know more than I.'

[CrimsonEon]

: "No, it certainly isn't." Alec reached around in his pack, pulling out what looked like an incredibly charred book, the symbols that could be made out seemed to look like that of a fire tome, "I can see why some people are scared, it's some dangerous stuff. But it's their loss, really."

The bard stuck the tome back and swung his pack around his shoulder.
: "Seems there's a lot of people out and away from home these days. You might not be from around here, but I'd think I'm safe in saying barely anyone knows what goes on here in Kretos. Least of all the Kretosians." Alec gave a halfhearted chuckle.

[Haspen]

"You have a fast horse. You have greater chances to escape an ambush than those on foot. You don't have to even shoot. Just run back and warn us, okay?"

[Sirus]

Grifen nodded and attempted a small smile.

: "Well, okay. Anything else?"

[Haspen]

"You're a strong girl I have to admit... no, that's all." She then moved back to the group and looked at Yonn.

"Grifen will go with you." Yonn nodded.

"Allright." He turned his horse toward the hill, ready to go as soon as Grifen would follow.

Before Chapter 4!

As preparations were being made to vacate the field of battle, Miguel turned to the Pink-Haired one and laid a hand on his shoulder.

: "Hmm, seems we're moving again. Next time we take a break from marching, I'll set you right young lad. Just you wait! We're going to have a good talk about that."


During Chapter 4!

Miguel Cervantes watched the proceedings with agitation. The whole scope of the situation was only just beginning to hit him. He had never been told directly what was going on; a fact which was beginning to wear on his patience. Then all this talk about meeting with the honorable Duke of Kretos, followed by Matilda pulling the fair horse maiden aside, and the idea that she would be sending the poor girl alone with that strange character was almost more than he could bear! Just what game was she playing?

Clearly there was just a simple misunderstanding, an act of war and subterfuge. Surely that would all be cleaned up soon in due time.

The palace loomed not so far from here red and ominous. He'd had avoided going to far into Kretos on business trips, but he had heard a little bit about it. The Crimson Palace was not a place to escape whispers being told about her halls. But he couldn't let that bother him. The last few days had shaken his resolve, but that was unbecoming of him. Now they needed him composed. No fear. He smiled. This was just another challenge that the brave knight would have to overcome. Treachery was afoot, and by goodness he was going to get to the bottom of it.

: "All the better for adventure I suppose!"

[SeriousConcentrate]

Sheila nudged Leo with her elbow, speaking quietly so Matilda wouldn't overhear. "Hey, you don't think she's thinking about sending Grifen in alone with Yonn do ya? He seems like a decent guy and all, but I'm worried his granddad isn't."

"It looks like that's exactly what she's planning. I hope Grifen will be all right."

[Blade Master Model 42]

Sheila folded her arms in front of her chest. "I don't like this, Leo. I've got a bad feeling about all this. She should've sent... I dunno, Fezz or me, I guess."

[SeriousConcentrate]

"I get what she's thinking. She's sending someone who has a horse and can get away fast if Yonn tries anything. So... you and Fezz aren't really options, though Miguel could've been."
