"Hmm, sixteen."

: "Seventeen. Over halfway there!"

Candy wondered if he should buy the guy another beer with his winnings.

[Haspen]

The man tapped at the table, took a sip of the beer, and then thought for a moment.

"Nineteen."

: "Twenty-one. What's your name, by the way?"

[Haspen]

"Raphael. Blade-for-hire, I would say, but more of homeless, a little desperate-to-get-a-job swordsman. Twenty-two."

: "Twenty-five. Blade-for-hire, hmmmmmmmmm?? I'm Candy. My group is kind of trapped in a scary, deadly political mission. Of course, I can't say much about it to a stranger--"

[Haspen]

"Candy? Is it because you're so sweet? Twent-wait." Raphael thought for a brief second.

"Dammit. Fine, the money is yours."

[freeformschooler]

: "Candy's my fairy name! Candy the trickster fairy!"

He scoops up all the gold, gets up, and starts doing a twirl-dance around the bar betwixt the tables beside the patrons.

: "Bartender! Another round of drinks for my buddy Raphael here! It's your consolation prize."

[Haspen]

"Heh, consolation prize... a kiss would be better." He said in half-whisper when Candy was back at the table, and then took a sip of the beer, turning his gaze toward the bartender who was prepping a new mug.

Raphael didn't really count on that kiss it seems.

Candy sat back down, totally ignorant of the come-on.

: "So you're really desperate for work, huh? How about a body-guard? Our employer - I believe - will pay us handsomely when we finish our mission. It's up to you whether you want to work on credit and promises or drink here another day. We leave by boat soon~"

[Haspen]

Raphael waited in silence till the bartender brought the next mug. He took a big sip of the fresh beer, then rubbed own chin in thought.

"Actually, if you have a boat, any place is better than this. Sure, I can be your bodyguard for a while. But if we get to the mainland I would like to see some money, too."

"I hope you can promise me some warm food and equally warm bed when I'm 'employed' by you?"

: "Oh- I'm not your employer. Your employer would be..."

Candy shivered thinking of Matilda's cold smile as her royal bouncers threatened them into political subterfuge.

: "Someone more important. You'll be well-fed and housed. For now, when you're ready, I'll wait at the docks for you and the rest of my team. Prepare your things~!"

[Haspen]

Raphael stood up and patted his belt, which had few pouches attached to it, plus a sheath with rather wide blade hidden in it. From under the table, he procured a leather bag which he hung around his left shoulder.

"I'm ready to go, Candy. And I would prefer you to be my employer, noblemen... give me indigestion." He rolled his eyes and then walked up to the fairy dancer.

//NPC: Raphael joins the party!

Julius hadn't wandered far from the docks yet.

"Not even halfway to Kretos and I already feel like I'm back home." he mumbled, musing on the attack earlier. Their intended destination hadn't been very good for his mood.

"I already feel much stronger just from traveling with this group but... it's still not enough! That bandit knocked me down like it was nothing. If I want to make any difference in this world I still need more power. Perhaps in a place like this I could..."

Thinking of the old pieces of parchment he had carried in his bag since he had found them, Julius checked to make sure his sword was still secure and began looking for a shop that might sell the item he was looking for.
