"I've learned that trying to give them orders just doesn't work. Suggestions would do much better, like 'someone should attack that archer!' Instead of trying to boss them around, I trust them to recognize what needs to be done and it's worked out so far... and the one time it was a mess, a simple nudge in the right direction was all it took."

Leo leaned on his staff.

"We're all independent people and we make our own decisions. That's why we're mercenaries and not soldiers."

: "...If you ask me, the ninability to take orders does make them seem pretty damn useless for anything of a defensive nature, such as bodyguard duty. There is a measure of discipline required for that kind of work and that level of discipline must be maintained.

Not calling them completely useless, mind you.  Just saying they're unsuitable for this sort of work, Offensive work is more lenient when it comes to that, requiring just a motivated force rather than a disciplined one."

Sheila finally snapped. This was not how things used to be done in this group. "Mask, shut the fuck up before I throw you off of this boat. You are not one of us, and even if you were, you are not our leader. If I have to hear any more shit about how we're not following orders, I'll give you the treatment you'd deserve as a leader; a mutiny. And it'd be a damn sight better than the one we're quashing now."

"And Efa, sweetie, please just ignore her. She's probably just a bitter ugly hag beneath that mask, and jealous you're so much damn prettier. Now, can we please get back to killing the damn mutineers?!"
