When the last gargoyle fell onto the pier, it was silent again.

~~Chapter 2x Complete!~~

As the Mireosian guards began to help each other, Matilda arrived at the dock with Alec near her side.

"Who's in charge of this group?" At these words, the mage girl with black gloves on her hand stepped up to Matilda and saluted her.

"Lieutenant Pella Mari, Special Division, sir! We were to guard the docks till your arrival, and, um, we hoped to not get you involved in this little skirmish with the gargoyles, but--"

"Don't worry, I'm pretty sure we are all OK. Any other orders you were given?"

"None!" She chirped confidently. "Am I dismissed?" Matilda nodded, and the mage girl moved to the gargoyle corpses, helping her soldiers to prepare them for the only proper treatment for monster corpses - on a burning pyre.

"Ah yes, you're that horseman? What was your name again, sir?" Matilda turned toward Miguel.

[SeriousConcentrate]

"Well, I'm glad that's over with!"

Leo started milling about among his allies - including the platoon who had been fighting the gargoyles - dispensing healing as necessary.

[Sirus]

: "Whew! Sure am glad things seemed ta turn out okay!"

Grifen checked the bodies of the gargoyles, hoping that at least one of them was carrying the special item her grandma had told her about.

With an air of gravity that is only found in the most noble of knights, Miguuel dismounted his horse and promptly gave Matilda salute and his full measure of attention.

: "Miguel Cervantes m'lady. Knight Errant of Garaz. I saw these foul creatures from the highroad and I was compelled by honor to join in melee with them. I trust you and your companions are unharmed, yes?"

[Haspen]

There was nothing similar to whatever Grifen's grandma told her about.

"A man of honor and duty, huh? Well then, sir, I think you should join our group! Because per chance we're bound on a quest that will bring peace to humans and death to the foul beasts that roam this world! And I would welcome an experienced knight like you."

Pella then stepped up to Matilda and saluted to her again.

"Something's wrong?" The young mage shook her head, then gave Matilda a ring.

"What's that?"

"It's a Shield Ring!" Pella nodded. "Young enchanters and such folks make them often for practice; you see, they grab an ordinary ring and carefully weave a slight portion of defensive magic... oh, sorry, I mean, uh..."

"So, a magical ring?"

"Yes! We found it tied to the spear of one of the bigger gargoyles, so I thought you might want it, sir."

"That's kind of you... I will pass it to one of our more fragile companions, I guess. You can go now." Pella saluted and Matilda looked the ring from both sides; it didn't look as anything more than simple gold ring. After a moment, she turned back to Miguel.

"I'm sorry, where was I?"

Well, shoot. Grandma had always claimed that gargoyles were expert cheesemakers. Sadly, none of them carried any of their magic cheese, which could cure blindness and depression.

: "Oh well. Hey Sheila, how ya doin'?"

Miguel strokes his mustache in fond consideration of the proposal. Here was a stroke of good luck. This woman was being far more receptive to his antics than the inn keeper down the road... And the wash woman who had driven him off her property with a broom. The decision was easy.

: "I could hardly refuse a lady's request. I accept."

: "To travel with such a band of lusty adventurer's as yourselves... How could I refuse! Where are you... I mean we bound to?"

"We're heading to Knossos, to speak with the Duke of Kretos. If all goes well, the future will be bound to enter an era of justice."
