:"...That makes things pretty shitty then, actually..."

[Sirus]

: "Huh?"

As she tried to process Efa's comment, Grifen noticed that sometime during the night all of the light sources in the room had gone out. She quickly lit a nearby candle to stave off the darkness, if only a little, before returning her attention to the other archer.

: "How so?"

[Blade Master Model 42]

Sheila started fiddling with the straps under her pauldron as she volunteered a response to Grifen."Well, if the assassin they're looking for is Candy's brother or sister,  that's kind of unfortunate for him, right? I mean, that would mean he's wound up at odds with his kin."

[Powder Miner]

Efa clenches her teeth together in an expression of sympathy, with just a bit of remembered pain:
:"Because if it did happen to be his sibling, then it would be his sibling the guards would be going after.
Guards or soldiers or the like trying to kill your family is one of the worst things I can think of."

[Sirus]

: "Oh. Right, that is pretty bad. But...so, is assassinating people, right?"

[Powder Miner]

:"I'd say assassinating the duke would be bad, yes. But that wouldn't make everything better, and I hope that it isn't actually one of Candy's siblings, for his sake."

[Blade Master Model 42]

"Depends on the person, I'd say. That's after you've tried peaceable methods of course. Not that the kind of person worth assassinating tends to entertain peaceable methods too often."

"Besides. Family is family. You don't give up on them just because they're twisting knives in backs. If they have a good reason, I mean."

[Sirus]

: "Well, maybe it's like Efa said and it ain't someone related to Candy at all! That'd be a weird coincidence, having a whole buncha pink-haired fellas running around...then again we got three green-haired girls and one fella in this little group, so who knows?"

[SeriousConcentrate]

Leo groaned, the sound slightly muffled as he was face down in his pillow. The poor priest had been so tired he hadn't even changed out of his traveling robes and had just collapsed into bed. After a moment, he sighed and pushed himself up, then shifted around so he was sitting on the edge of the bed with his elbows on his knees with a yawn.

"Ugh... what time is it? What's everyone doing up? Did something happen?"

[Sirus]

: "Evenin', preacher! Or morning, or...anyway, looks like someone tried to kill His Dukeness and the guards thought Candy did it. S'all good now though."

[SeriousConcentrate]

Leo looked at Grifen blearily, as if unable to believe it.

"Candy? Hurt someone? What foolish guards."

He yawned again and rubbed his eyes.

"Your hair looks nice. I suppose it is more convenient to keep it tied away during battle."

The priest looked at his own locks a bit ruefully. He was too used to letting his hair do what it would to consider binding it up.

"Ah, anyway. Any other important news?"

[Sirus]

: "Yeah, they didn't seem all that bright. But, apparently the assassin-person had pink hair like Candy's. Candy said something about it possible being a brother of his, but I dunno if anyone knows anything for sure."

She turned slightly pink at the unexpected compliment.

: "Aw, thank ya kindly. Ya don't want long hair getting caught in yer bowstring, so I usually keep it tied up. Guess that's something ya don't hafta worry about though."

: "But anyway, I think that was about it. Sorry if our chatter woke ya up."

[SeriousConcentrate]

"No, it's all right, really. I can't sleep all the time."

He thought for a moment.

I wonder if Eleanor wears her hood and mask because she has pink hair.

She did seem the type to try to assassinate the duke for no particular reason. She was a cruel and vicious person caring only for her own whims.

"If you'd like, we can go over some of the basics of using a staff now. Come, meditate with me."

Leo scooted back on the bed and folded his legs, touching his fingertips together in almost the shape of a bowl.

[Sirus]

: "Right now...? Well, yer the expert!" She moved over closer to where Leo sat (taking the candle along, of course) and did her best to imitate his pose.

: "Okay, now what? I don't think I ever saw Ma doing this sorta thing."

[SeriousConcentrate]

"I imagine these training techniques are particular to my region, if not just Ironmill itself."

Leo reached over and adjusted her arms slightly, then returned to his original position, closing his eyes as he did so.

"I was taught that every human has the potential for magic inside them - at the very least, the potential needed to properly use staves. But to realize this potential, one must find their center and meditate upon it, feel it within them and expand it through mental training."

Leo took a deep breath in through his nose, then released it slowly from his mouth.

"Everyone's center is different. For some, it is physical - a location within their body, usually the base of the spine, I'm given to understand. For many, it is a treasured memory or an ideal. For others, it is an emotion. I want you to breathe deeply and slowly, as I do, and look within yourself to find what your center is. And when you know, I'll tell you mine. I would not want to color your perceptions with my own."
