: "Eh, it was always going be like this. The ducal family is never going to change from being a bunch of lying, cheating, two-timing assholes. Though they're relatively good compared to most other nobles."

Leo looked down at his blue surcoat, which had a large golden serpentine dragon across the front of it, then looked back at Sigismund and raised an eyebrow.

"Well, yes. Is there a problem with that?"

[Haspen]

"Not really. I have a single question concerning the rites and rituals of the Dragon." The Duke paused for a moment, sat down on his chair and placed his hands on the desk.

"Specifically, I'm interested in funeral. Is it expensive? Here in the west, the family burns the body and scatters the ashes into the sea. I heard that comes from very early Empire traditions. Is the Dragon Cult's version different?"

[SeriousConcentrate]

"No, it's the same with us. Fire is the great refiner and purifier, and symbolic of the Dragon."

"Why the interest in funerals? Planning one for the Emperor at the end of all this?"

Roderic said nothing, instead he just looked sternly at Matilda and shook his head slowly in disappointment before heading back to the quarters.

"Oh, you're sorry, that makes everything alright then." Sheila rolled her eyes, arms crossed over her chest as she leaned against a nearby wall.

A few moments later, she added, "So, has your little rebellion decided on who's sitting on the throne when it's all over?"

[Culise]

"..."

Tacey snorted slightly at Matilda's apologies, but didn't say anything outright.

Fezz hesitated when the duke called for everyone to leave beyond Leo, being the last one to leave, giving both Leo and the duke a glance before finally vacating.

He was silent as he watched the door for a moment before turning away from it and lightly rubbing his temples. The scholar merely grumbled when Matilda apologized, less a coherent sentence and more of an annoyed grunt.

[Haspen]

@Leo:

"...Not sure if I ever live long enough to see that scoundrel's death. An illness is rotting away my body. Half a year left in me, maybe twice that... Males from my side of family rarely get past forty. I'm already forty-two. So you can see, our bloodline is rather punctual. That's why I'm asking." Duke stopped for a brief second.

"Neuthart knows, Matilda doesn't. And well, you know now, too. I would rather prefer if you didn't share that information with anyone, even if my illness will become obvious in few weeks."

@others:

A trio of guards walked up to Matilda and briefly saluted her.

"Ah, yes. You will be taken back to your quarters. I wish you... good night." Matilda's lips twisted with a grimace as she turned heel and walked past the guards, whose nervous glaring was easily noticeable even from under their helmets.

[Taricus]

: "...Well, anyone want anything while we wait, I have a decent feeling this will be a long, boring night. Aside from sleeping."

[Sirus]

Grifen "hmph!"d at Matilda's words, still to insulted at the forced recruitment to try to be polite. She turned to the others and forced some cheer into her voice.

: "I wonder if they tried to force Bree into helping them while we were talking to His Dukeness..."

: "I bet she would have said 'neigh'!"

It was an absolutely terrible joke, but she wanted to lighten the mood a little bit.

[Culise]

Tacey was herself quite irritated by being pressganged, but she twitched slightly at the terrible pun, turning away slightly from the rest of the group.

"...pfft."

As she faced the rest of the group again, though, she had reverted to her earlier ill temper, at least outwardly. 

"Tch.  Any rate, I'd sooner sleep in the stable than in one of their rooms with their guard right outside the door, but fer some funny reason, I doan' think they'll want any of us near our rides before they're plumb and ready to go."

[Taricus]

: "Can't blame them too much though, they're probably thinking that we might end up warning the empire. If that happens, what the emperor would do would make them wish for death." Sara said, shrugging.

[Culise]

The mental images drawn up from memory made Tacey wince; the Emperor's "punishments" had been the stuff of rumour mills across the capital and beyond, and not all had been merely rumour. 

"Yeah, I doan' blame them for that.  I just blame them for throwing us into this mess in the first place."

She sighed, calming down slightly as she did. 

"Just goes to show, always check out the employer afore taking the job."

Efa, for her part, just shrugged as she walked back to the quarters, muttering something about "oppotunity" and "finally".
