Obviously it is a Chinese mole-bird-dragon.

{{I am imagining something cat-sized, is this fitting with how you see it, GM?}}

It has no eyes, whatever it is -and is a stupid hatching for now. Maybe leaving it to fend for itself would be a bad idea.

Voting to take it back with us, because clearly nothing could go wrong with having a newborn dragon-mole thing in a stable.

Perhaps by putting our fingers on its beak whenever we go 'shhh', we can train it to be quiet when we do that. That would be useful.

Alternatively, it could lose us a lot of fingers. Let's try it!

Or genitals.
All the more reason to try it.

...No, I'm fairly sure the "put our hand on it's beak" plan doesn't involve getting our genitals near the beak.
It shouldn't, anyway.

While training it to be quiet may be a good idea, putting our fingers in his (her? its?) mouth is definitively not. Also whatever it is, it will not be welcomed, according to the guy's reaction to the egg splinter.

Stump/Wilderness votes: 1+1 + roll: 5
Take with votes: 1+1 + roll: 3

Rolls for tiebrakers, because as far as I could see, there was only one really clear vote on either side.  (By the way, if you intend to upvote or downvote something, please always put a +1 or -1 in your post.  I won't count "maybe" as a vote, and while I will count very similar suggestions or "oh yeah that's awesome," it makes it way easier to tally up when finishing up a post if I have distinct +/-s to count.)

And the result is we are leaving this critter in the woods and hoping it stays well-hidden!

Stay hidden!: 1.  You lead the creature back to the stump and try to nudge it in, so it will be hidden by all the brambles, but it answers you with a loud wail.  You couldn't say for sure, but it really looks like it is throwing a tantrum, rolling around on the ground and snapping its beak as it squeals and squawks.  Well, this doesn't seem to be progressing well.

Hush-training: 3+1+1.  You decide it really needs to learn that there is a time and a place for crying like a baby, and that time is when you're not afraid it's going to attract the attention of all sorts of unpleasant people or animals.  You crouch down at its side and wait for it to stop flailing about, then tap it a little sharply on the tip of its beak.  It falls silent and "stares" at you, mouth slightly open.  After a few seconds of quiet you stroke its soft hide, petting it.

"That's good, uhhuh.  You need to stop making noise right now.  Be a good... critter."  It starts to whine when you stand up, but you tap its snout and again it falls silent.  Seems to have gotten the idea, at least for now!

You have no more time.  The sun is going to be coming up soon, and you need to be in the stable and getting to work.  You won't be able to come back and see the creature again until you've finished your morning duties, which will take you a few hours.  Hoping that it will be okay and will get back in the stump or at least hide itself in the brambles, you turn and leave it behind.

You should probably think up a name for it for when you come back, so you don't have to call it "critter" anymore.  You also have a lot more choices of what kinds of foods to bring it back, as you know you can pilfer just about whatever you want from the kitchens as long as you don't take too much at one time.
