Tell everybody everything. Insult Psysquid thoroughly. Properly introduce Snowstar to Cerulean. Ask the kid why we defected from heroes.

Do we have time and ability to design weapons for our cogs? Produce 10 normal ones anyway.

I will put all my thoughts into one last post so it's easier to get:

-Remove questions 4,6,11,12,13
-Reveal the truth to our advisors
-Take care of our advisor's morale, especially Lord Gamington.
-Make sacrifices of all the dead beasts we have here


Later, for the next mission, I would suggest a bit of psychological warfare. Take that TV antenna again (or even better, acquire a mobile one) and then broadcast a Badass Boast to the whole city.

I mean, not only we have slaughtered a whole city block, but a whole special forces squadron, a whole police squadron, 26 heroes, this only with a single guy who survived, and we have just defeated one of their strongest heroes, Nighthowl.

What's not to boast about ? Let's introduce fear into their hearts and sow dissent into their minds. We are the evil overlord, our enemies should quake in fear.

okay, so I'm not that interested about being a 'good badguy? or anti-villan?' so I'll just let the rest of you sort the entire morality thing out.

what I do suggest though is to lay low and rebuild for a while, look into the cost of moving shop and only do lowkey missions for stuff we really need.

Are the catfish eggs intact?

Is our new underwater mining system intact?

Explain to Cruelean that we need her to remain a side kick.  It's not her, it's us, and it probably won't be forever, but for now - needed, good girl.

I know I stand alone in this last though - but mutate our 'father'.  Sure he's already a monster.  But those who come to us come away changed.  To me, that's part of us being us.

i think that we had our "disfunctional family" working just right. If we change inside (like we are doing)
it will just not work anymore just because we are not the same guy who runned it.

I, for one, think the best part of the story is over. Now we have a lot more
things that I can't see how will connect together.

...yeah, not sure I'm interested in the new direction this is taking either. This game has been a lot of fun, the writing is good, high praise shadenight...but while before we were an Evil Overlord who knew what he wanted, knew what he was doing and had no qualms about making it happen...now it seems like half the players want us to be an angsty, tortured soul who's confused and inconsistent about what he's doing or why.

Before, we were a Noble Demon trying to take over the world. Does everyone remember that was our goal? To take over the world? Now...apparently we're trying to be a hero and redeem one particular city in a battle that will now apparently climax with an entirely cliche daddy-issues duel with our father.

Will keep reading for a while to see how it goes, but I just don't anticipate the direction players are taking this to be very much fun.

Neat, if distressed, thoughts.

This is a suggestion game.

We have been offered a less obvious set of choices than picking a mission or selecting to upgrade our base however.

It appears that the majority selection, or possibly an alternate really nice suggestion occasionally, will be used to decide what paths are taken, when it is not possible to 'please as many as possible' as our precious and amazing OP has also successfully done on many turns by including many parts of what many people have suggested.


If you don't like a part of the story, don't want to see it furthered, and have no preference for what is done during it, just don't talk about it or directly downvote it.  Note that you may, but do not have to, explain WHY you are downvoting it.  Every participating reader's vote appears to be considered in this.  So if you don't like something, be clear and direct.  Possibly even brief, it actually may be enough just to identify the idea(s) you don't want more of and just say -1 following an identifying quote.

If you have a suggestion for how you want the game to go - even if no one else has mentioned it, or is directly suggesting against it - make the suggestion, or if fits, quote and +1 someone else's idea if it is reasonably close to your own.

In my opinion, the tale is doing well.  Our OP is still going strong.  He even told us, end of a chapter, end of 'the tutorial'. 

Shadeknight123 has done exceptionally well in managing us all and his story.  He has demonstrated to me, and us all, that he can keep all this straight and progressing.  He has inclusively responded to multiple directions, and thrown new things into the 'pot' to affect and involve us on many levels.

Trust of our storyteller = +10 from me.  Trust that the story will continue to be well run, and continue to be interesting, and involving, and inclusive = +10 from me.  Belief that my suggestions, and lack of suggestions can affect the story and indicate my interest and preferences in a meaningful way = +10 from me.

Again, if you don't like something, give it little time.  If you dislike something enough to talk about it a lot, that makes it seem like a +vote for it unless you word it extremely carefully.  Shine the light of your attention where you want to see more.  And trust in this amazing improvisational storyteller to shape our wants into something that continues to involve, interest, and impress.

I sure do.  Someone get me some mutagen, so I can give Shadeknight123 the 10 thumbs up I feel he deserves, from me alone?  Thanks!

When you finish revealing the truth, Psysquid blinks.
Lord Gamington sheepishly coughs, while Cerulean looks at you with wide-doe eyes.
"You're THE Hero!" Cerulean exclaims then brightly, "I'm the daughter of THE Hero!" she adds then, "Can I have an autograph?" she says sheepishly. "I always wanted an autograph from THE Hero."
You chuckle and pat the girl's head.
"Well, it is a surprise," Lord Gamington states then, "But I am glad there will be no more senseless deaths." he adds, "And I hope this will mean some people," somehow, his gaze is locked on Cerulean, "Will learn not to kill whenever it pleases them."
Cerulean looks away embarrassed.
"Very well," Psysquid coughs politely. "So you are THE Hero and Evil Overlord...I wonder how that would look on a credential papers. 'Yes, I am Psysquid, Dark Advisor, worked for both THE Hero and the Evil Overlord Incognito. How did I manage? Oh, it wasn't easy but it sure had it perks..."
"Psysquid," you say slowly, covering Cerulean's ears. "YOU DID A GODDAMN MOT-"
Five strings of insults later and Psysquid is lazily on the ground, trembling in pleasure.
Snowstar's eyes have been covered by Lord Gamington.
"Your overlordness! There are children around here!" Lord Gamington remarks dryly.
"Why did I put my hands over Ceruelan's ears then?" you remark.

You then look at Snowstar who eyes you back in surprise. He had a hectic first day of work you suppose.
"Well, hello there," you state to the starfish boy. "This," you put your arms on Cerulean's shoulders. "Is my daughter, Cerulean. You try anything funny with her and I will rip you apart like a handkerchief, before burning the remains inside an oven and using your ashes as Mr. Wuffle II's litter. When those damn eggs hatch of course."
Snowstar actually nods vividly. "I...Ah...All right," he squeaks out.
"Good! Now, do you have any preferences for a place to sleep?"
"Near the water is fine?" he hazards.
"Very well," you acquiesce. "We'll talk more tomorrow morning. Now it's been a tiring day and everyone needs their rests."

Day 8 (should really go and check if this day is correct or not) Year One

Upkeep

You wake up to the sound of 'WUFFLE WUFFLE WUFFLE'.
That's actually not how Behemoth Catfish are supposed to sound when you wake up, so you go and check.
Somebody has created five normal cogs to go by, and then two more who apparently...have giant helicopter blades on their back to fly around. Which is apparently the reason there is a 'Wuffle-Wuffle' noise.
You stare at those things, and then you look at Lord Gamington.
Who is sheepishly hiding a wrench behind his back.
"With this, they'll be able to follow us!" he exclaims happily. "Sure, I had to make their inner parts lighter to make them fly with what scraps I found, but hey! Look at those cuties!"
One of the cogs descends nearby "COG-WUFFLE! WUFFLE-COG! Computing..."
Cog Acquired: Wufflecog
He does look sort of frail...but if he can follow the Zeppelin...then maybe it's not such a bad thing after all?
The Five normal Cogs meanwhile have finished cleaning the fighting area and dumped everything on the Sad System.
You stare at the mass of dead flesh -that has begun to rot- and give one last goodbye to Mr. Wuffle.
Then you grab a handful of Crystals, and throw them in to boot.

"Your Evilness," Chemista remarks appearing behind you. "Are we going to throw the Cogs remains directly in the Sad System? It might call forth something completely different. And there's also SilGoo in there...well, its remains."

Do you proceed to sacrifice it all?

While you ponder on that, you decide to talk with Knighthowl a bit more. He is still heavily bandaged, but he smiles when you enter and carefully begin to answer your questions.

"I know just a couple of heroes, but they all share similar characteristics," he replies. "Magic users always have an enhance attack, which can either be close range or long range. Then there are people who just go forward using their guts since they lack brains...those get dangerous the more you fight against them, but they can be outwitted. Then there's the down to earth guys. You know, like the Power Actor or Super Direction Giver. They're heroes because they've got a spark of something more in them, but they're not something to worry about."
He looks to the ceiling. "Of the HEROES you should worry about...there's I suppose four. Sure, you defeated me but I was alone and stupid...Had I taken my time it would have been quite the fought out battle. In any case, three of those are respectively in H-City, S-City, and J-City."
"What's up with those names?"
"Ah, sorry, it's just how we call the cities to keep the names short...They're Hero-City, Super-City, Just-City and the city you know as B-City is Brave-City."
He taps at his chest lightly. "They named them after the key elements of the Hero System. A Hero must be Super, he must be Just, and he must be Brave...each of them has a Heroic Hero to protect them in case of great harm."
"I see," you mull it over. "Wait. Who's the fourth Hero?"
"Your father, of course," Knighthowl replies, "He was the last THE Hero."
"He's in Brave-City?"
"No, he travels around. If he had been here I doubt things would have gone smoothly for you. Of course, news of your slaughter will probably have made the rounds. I suggest you try and expand in other cities, to let things die down here."
You nod, and then you ask another question.
"Do I have other family members?"
"You come from a renowned and great line of heroes," Knighthowl replies. "Which goes back to the very first Hero who defeated the very first Evil Overlord. Unfortunately, for what concerns family...your sister died when she was young, which was the reason you became the next THE Hero. Your older brother turned evil after you rose the ranks, giving in to envy. You killed him. Your mother died of childbirth when you were very little, and your youngest brother didn't survive more than a month. Your father had no brothers or sisters...I suppose the only one that remains is your great-great-grandmother but...well," he looks sideways, "She's a potted plant of pot now."
You blink.
"Wait. What?"
"Yes, you see...she was the Hero of pot, a 'hippie' as they called them...and one day decided to become a plant of pot herself to be burned to bring peace to the world. Of course nobody burned her but..."
Then he smiles as he stares at your incredulous face. "I'm joking Puppy. So easy to rile you up eh?" chuckling, he shakes his head. "Except for your father, there aren't any other living relatives I can think of."
You grimace. Somehow, you hoped hearing all this would give you back some type of memory, but nothing comes to your mind.

There's just...nothing.
"What was my mother's name?" you ask then, warily.
"Her Hero name was Silver Valkyrie. To think childbirth would defeat her," Knighthowl exhaled. "A sad thing, but I suppose they happen all the same."
"And Father?"
"He's the Mechanist. That's why your Hero name was Silver Mechanism."
"What about my real name?" you press on.
"That's...something even I don't know. Real names are for civilians, not for heroes."
You nod.
"Is the Hero hereditary?"
"Yes and no," Knighthowl replies. "No, because all it takes is for a man or woman to find THE Call to Herodom. Yes, because generally THE Call has only rarely happened outside of your family, and when it did THE Hero that came to be married into your family."
"I understand," you let Knighthowl rest after that, leaving and closing the door of the infirmary behind you.

Chemista surfs towards you as you enter the throne room.
"Your Evil Overlordness? About the available missions, we now randomly will choose the city to take them in. Unfortunately, once a city is decided we can't just go back and look into the missions of other cities until a turn has passed."
That said, she shows you a chart.
B-City is depicted as if in flames, with bright dots and black crosses all over it. It hurts to just watch it.
"This means the city is on Extremely High Alert," she remarks.

The other three city are instead just normally depicted.
Super-City, Just-City and Hero-City now available for missions!

It's Just-City Time!

Choose a mission


1) The airport is my airway. Destruction. "Let them know we are coming...by stealing one of their airplanes," Psysquid remarks. "We can use their components to strengthen the existing Zeppelin to carry as much as fifteen units -Dark Advisor included in the number, not subjected to change- OR speed up the construction of Flying Cogs to the same number as the normal cogs." Airport Guards present. Resource Acquirable: Flying-parts
2) My name is Chihua. Huahua. Mixed. "The Hero Chihuahua is the icon of the local Chili and Burrito and Hotdog stands around the market area. Defeating her will show the local underworld who's coming to town. And we can kidnap some waitresses while we're at it for the 'Wench' needs," Psysquid states plainly. Market Guards present. Acquirable Resources: Wenches...and a Chili on the double.
3) Hello Darling, do you need some love? Call 666-666-666. Rawr. Control. "I don't know what the Evil Overlod *tm* system was drinking last night," Psysquid deadpans, "But here we go. A mission involving an animal shelter," he dryly looks at you. What? You weren't imagining dirty things were you? "Might find some good mutagens, some new pets...and a Lion who believes itself a mouse," he scrolls to the end of the parchment with the mission. "Wonderful." Low chance of Police present. Acquirable Mutagens. Acquirable animals.

On a side note, we really need to acquire poison gas or something like that, if we want to maintain the semblance of non-lethality. (Which, for the matter, I don't. Not targeting civilians fine, but everyone who stands in our way gets thrown on the shopping block.)

We still have un-mutated animals from a few missions ago?  Mutate one of them with squid mutagen.

Take mission 2 and 3.

Send Psisquid and Snowstar, with two normal cogs and one wuffle cog, on mission 2.  Let them know returning with advisor and sidekick alive is top priority, returning with 2+ wenches is second priority, and bringing back any other niceties or people, including a market guard and/or Chihua would be quite pleasing - but not more important than the top two goals.

Send Lord Gamington and Cerulean on mission 3, with three normal cogs and one wuffle cog.  Anything and everything of interest they are able to return with will be fantastic.  Don't forget to leave a few calling cards, as well as a nice symbolic display.

Gamington should rest, and be awarded for he served very well recently, and keep watch over the base. Or at least don't put him with Cerulean until they solve their moral dispute.

Then we'll get some dark minions and monsters, things that we sorely lack.
