Well, it appears that the society here has a very bad case of propaganditis. We should try to lessen the symptoms. Administering bitter truth in large doses might help, but for now I believe we should just prevent the spread of the disease by cauterising broadcasting towers, news studios and ultimately the reporter's mouth. Not on this turn, though, right now we need to lay low. And hire some wenches, or at least take our stealth zeppelin to the worst part of the city at night and offer some poor malnourished prostitude an equivalent of $100 in exchange for some blood. We also need to develop our monsters, just in case somebody stumbles upon our base and calls the cavalry, perhaps we could mutate the catfishes into being terrestrial or even flying with human or bird DNA.

Improve the base, masterful mining methodology!

Oh it is on. Hand up those who want to raid and exterminate Casternews.
*hand*

We really need to lay low right now. Propaganda painting us as violent monters is not defeated with violence, it is defeated with truth and throwing spanners into the workings of the media machine.

Perhaps we can get a link to the public, and use them to make heroes more heroic, instead of Heroic. We stay anonymous, of course, so that it sounds like someone's honestly trying to help instead of sounding like us lot are corrupting them.

We can probably accept their challenge, and start an orderly debate, once we've researched a good amount of stuff to safely deflect bullets and random heroes.

Doubt it. Heroes get to backstab people in this universe.

Something like that.  But less  evil sounding. And more evil sounding.

You give a nod to Chemista.
Then you head over to where your Catfish are and get one of the unnamed ones -who would ever dare harm Mr. Wuffle with mutations, after all?
The moment he swims closer, Chemista sighs and plunges the syringe with human Dna inside it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The Behemoth Catfish slowly starts to shrink. It hisses and growls, before bring a palmed humanoid hand to its face and snarling. Its gills now at its human-like neck, it growls with a set of pointy shark-like teeth.
It is now twice the size of a man...but no longer a Behemoth.
The way it snarls though...yes, it is undoubtedly a creature.
Resource acquired: Giant-Human-Catfish! Also known as Guatish!
He doesn't appear to be Static anymore, but he isn't smart. At all. He also appears to be amphibian.

With a jolt, the Guatish returns into the water, flapping around with small whines, since he's not used in 'swimming like a Guatish' at all.

Then you take the second Catfish, and try the Bird Mutagen. Catching a seagull isn't all that difficult.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

But that's when things turn sour.
The entire surface of the Behemoth Catfish turns feathery, feathers that begin to soak in water. It tries to open its newly found wings, only for its mass to constrict him. What then follows is the most horrifying sound ever to be heard as the bones of the creature become light -to sustain flight- yet his body mass and weight is too big for itself.
It collapses into itself, a mass of flesh and broken bones, which soon colors the water red with its blood. Then, it dies drowning in its own water and blood...since it cannot resurface.

"Thankfully the Peta isn't around here," German says calmly. "They'd kill us for this."
You have lost a Catfish!
Mutagens: it's not just a matter of passing the check. Sometimes you get something that works...over times, you get something that can't.
In this case, crossing Fish and Bird is Not Good. Not Good at all.

It's then time for the missions, although they will just be shown since you appear keen on upgrading your base.

Choose a mission/Upgrade your base

1) It's little Timmy's birthday! But where is little Timmy? Control. "Kidnap a child during his birthday," Chemista deadpans. "Use him as a hostage for his family, who are government agents." She adds then, "Ah, now that makes sense."
2) Under the sea, under the sea, a Nuclear Wasteland awaits! Destruction. "Apparently we're detecting high levels of radiation from a certain point below the water...we could investigate and use that radiation for our own purposes."
3) The Crime Syndicate is DEAD. DEAD I TELL YOU IT'S DEAD! Mixed. "Some low key Overlord-lovers wannabe actually want to become our minions," Chemista remarks. "Seems awfully nice of them. But they're humans. Can we trust humans?"

Or you can upgrade the base.

Basileus clapped his hands once. The Forgotten took a step forward, attracted by the sound.
“There, I did something. I clapped. I like clapping,” he said. -The Investigator And The Case Of The Missing Brain.

There goes a catfish. Anyway, radiation or upgrading a mining installation. Decisions, decisions...

Anyway, someday soon we need to invent a more efficient way to distribute mutagen. Subverting the enemy mid mission can be benevolent.

((No kidnapping though. I'd go for missions 2 and 3. Kinda lowprofile.))

Use number 3 to have them as undercover agents, to start a campaign to call out heroes for doing monstrous things like letting a villain burn for 5 days straight, when that implies they could have killed them or captured them at any time between.

Sorry, fishie, I did not know that abominations against nature are not allowed to break the laws of physics.

As for the missions, I say we establish underwater mining and begin the production of guardian cogs instead. We need to upgrade our minions, after all, so that they will at least be cannon fodder and not mere target practice.

And if we do the missions after all, even though I vote against it, we should kidnap/hire some wenches dammit! I so want the succubi back.

EDIT: I would like to do what Gamerlord did and claim the Guatfish. If possible, we should name him Maurice and make him our personal butler. Butler as in "Maurice, show these would - be assassins what happens to those who oppose me".

I vote we start upgrading the base and the guardian cogs. We can use the magic crystals to upgrade our airship's/ subs powercore to, and next day we will have acces to Psysquid's wisdom.

The missions are ignored in favor of renovating the lair and adding an underground mining complex to reach deep into the Magical Crystals and Precious Metals veins.
As you direct the operations, you watch Cerulean slowly surf her way towards a rock, popping out from the underground tunnel you built to reach the mine. The rock is all shiny and blue, and carefully she dislodges it from the wall of the cave by dissolving with her inner acids the rocks around.

The taken shiny blue rock is then 'hastily' hidden from view of those around her -albeit it's quite difficult to do so when everyone saw her do her worst impression of 'Quiet and Silent Mission Impossible' while singing the Theme song at the same time.
Still, you decide to leave her youthful imagination go. If she wants a shiny rock, you'll let her have her shiny rock.
Maybe you're spoiling her too much.

The moment that is done, you proceed to implement schematics for Guardian Cogs.
You want them feisty, angry and cuddly. Well, no. You actually want them to last more than a scrappy hit.
That might be impossible, but you can still try and make them die less.

So you reinforce their joints a bit, strengthen their shields, place a few carefully picked alloys, give them a couple of spikes and...
Acquired Mook: Guardian Cog. Requirement: Precious Metals. Method of Building: same as normal mooks.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Then you try to convince Guatish, now renaimed 'Maurice' to put on butler clothes. He answers by snarling at the clothes. IN the end you opt for simply giving him a butler's tie and a butler's white-wrist-pieces-of-clothes-you-have-no-idea-their-name-of. He looks more like one of those porn male strippers for the furry addicts rather than a butler, but he'll do.
And he certainly will enjoy eating people.

The day thus passes uneventfully.

You are now in Downkeep
