Smelter? makes sense, since all races have access to it.

Actually, I don't think Dwarves or Ogres Orcs should even bother with it.

So, I didn't know exactly what to associate every sand with, so I went: Yellow:Iron White:Gypsum Black:Obsidian Red:Gold (the last one is particularly randomly thrown in). How much realistic is that?

shouldnt red be iron? You know, iron oxide II, rust makes it red?

Oh well, I'd just read on wikipedia: "Many sands, especially those found extensively in Southern Europe, have iron impurities within the quartz crystals of the sand, giving a deep yellow color.".
But your version is probably finer.

The shells yield by prospecting sand are the leather-like big ones used for armor. I was looking for the small, refuse-like ones.

Cant be done. The shells "like refuse" are bodyparts, which cant be produced in reactions.

I think I'm going to add a reaction to make fire clay/kaolinite at the chemist, then I think it'll be done.

Added reactions to make plaster from gypsum stones too and pearlash to the Kiln. Should I remove them for the Kobolds from the vanilla Clay Oven, turning it into a mere soil collector issuer?

Here are the reaction for fire clay and kaolinite:
Code: [Select]
[REACTION:MAKE_FIRECLAY_KOBOLD]
[NAME:Make refractory clay]
[BUILDING:GREMLIN_CHEMIST:NONE]
[REAGENT:SAND:150:POWDER_MISC:NONE:INORGANIC:SAND_TAN]
[REAGENT:BAG:1:BOX:NONE:NONE:NONE][BAG][PRESERVE_REAGENT][CAN_USE_ARTIFACT][CONTAINS:SAND]
[REAGENT:CLAY:1:BOULDER:NONE:INORGANIC:CLAY]
[PRODUCT:80:1:BOULDER:NONE:INORGANIC:FIRE_CLAY]
[SKILL:LYE_MAKING]

[REACTION:MAKE_KAOLIN_KOBOLD]
[NAME:Make kaolinite]
[BUILDING:GREMLIN_CHEMIST:NONE]
[REAGENT:SAND:150:POWDER_MISC:NONE:INORGANIC:SAND_TAN]
[REAGENT:BAG:1:BOX:NONE:NONE:NONE][BAG][PRESERVE_REAGENT][CAN_USE_ARTIFACT][CONTAINS:SAND]
[REAGENT:A:1:BOULDER:NONE:NONE:NONE][REACTION_CLASS:FLUX]
[REAGENT:CLAY:1:BOULDER:NONE:INORGANIC:FIRE_CLAY]
[PRODUCT:60:1:BOULDER:NONE:INORGANIC:KAOLINITE]
[SKILL:LYE_MAKING]
I was thinking about fire clay requiring flux to be fired, as well.

Sand and Clay makes Fireclay? And Fireclay, Flux and Sand gives Kaolinite? How close is this to RL?

Otherwise, nice progress. :) In the end we just have to find a good split between Pottery, Kiln, Clay Oven, Sand Smelting Cistern and whatnot. I am sure some things can be combined or added to existing features.

I read on internet Refractory Clay (i.e. Fire clay) paste is normal clay to which is added a sand or chamotte percentage.
To make a porcelain paste you're probably going to need Kaolin no matter what, but since Kobolds are never actually going to get Kaolin (except for import, of course), I might as well add a late-game way to get it.
Any idea on why nuggets get a negative value?
Also, for obsidian and gypsum "nuggets" (I renamed nuggets to fragments), would it be possible to assemble them back into boulders? :-\

Any idea on why nuggets get a negative value? => Why negative value?

I would make nuggets + fuel => smelt into bar. And for the fragments of rock: Just scrap them, it makes no sense to make a boulder from them. I would just directly find a boulder, but with 10 times lower chance of happening.
