Contained within each of these blobs is what looks to be a much darker, spherical mass, that almost appears to be pulling the masses of ooze along the floor from within.
They're surprisingly quick, and make a bee-line for the source of light. So, to explain a bit about combat real quick (As it currently stands. Things will probably get tweaked and such over time.) - Each character has 8 Action Points. You can use these points to move, attack, or cast spells.
The movement isn't snapped to the grid, but it's still measured. (Each square on the grid is 5x5 feet, to give you a way to measure the distances.)
Let's use Bekter's Movement speed as an example here:
[5 ft. per 1, 27 ft. per 4, 65 ft. per 8]
For 1 AP, he can move 5 feet. If he spends 2 points at once, he goes 10 feet, and 3 points, 15 feet.
But if he spends 4 points in a single move action, he gets to go a bit further than he normally would: 27 feet. And if he spends the entire round to run at full speed, he gets to move 65 ft.
Spending 2 points moving, then attacking, then spending 2 more points moving won't let you run 27 feet, it'll just be 20.
Attacking with weapons costs a variable amount of AP depending on the weapon. Two hit two birds with one stone here, we'll look at Clair's Shortbow, which has an Attack Time of "5/3". This means a single attack costs 5 Points, but two attacks can be strung together so that the second only costs 3 and two normal attacks can be fit within one turn. With faster weapons - like with movement costs, performing an action other than attacking breaks the combo.
For spells, the Cast Time just means the AP cost for casting it.
And for abilities, usually they'll cost whatever a normal attack would have at that point unless stated otherwise.
