So I bought a webcam for times when my girlfriend is away for talking, which is alot as we don't live together but I feel like I have an expensive tool here I could be making more use of.

Any ideas?

One idea is I often re-enact historic battles around the anniversaries of them, so I plan to stop motion a few. The camera has some nice 'scheduling pictures' features to it.
The only issue with this is I don't actually have any figures, I generally use bits of cardboard with commanders or units written on them.

Set up a battlemap with cardboard cutouts of warriors, wizards and other figures in front of what looks like a tavern backdrop. Lay it on a table. Slightly fold a large sheet of cardboard with some medieval fantasy video game's cover art on one side and stand it vertically on the same table. Align your webcam facing both the battlemap and the big sheet of cardboard behind it. Sit in a chair with your arms just barely visible behind the large cardboard sheet. Organize a group video chat with your long-distance friends, but don't tell them what it's about. When they're all in, switch on your Expensive HD Webcam and plug in your microphone.

Well, already that's 90% of the uses of a web cam on the internet gone.
But fear not, I come with possible suggestion. A complex one, however.

Have you ever considered trying wildlife filming? If you can set the web cam up with a view over a garden or some such, you can use it to take stills every few seconds throughout the day and night, then go back to it 24 hours later and check out what's living nearby.

My only other suggestion is along the same vein, and that's to use it for CCTV. Unfortunately that's the best I can do short of trying to convince you to upload an Amnesia play through or set up a Hadron Collider. (Which might need a new web cam anyway!)

Actually I did consider this. I considered pointing it out of my window to take a picture each day (or hour). I concluded the view from my window is too crap to make it worthwhile though lol. It's a maybe though!

Actually, if I could point this at my garden side it might be a good idea. Only problem with that is id need to start up my terribad laptop to bring it down stairs to the garden, but that's not an impossible task.

No ones gonna rob me here. And if they do the only thing of value thats not a big ass computer is my security camera

Who said anything about robbery? There's a lot of things you can see on a security camera that have nothing to do with your stuff.

I think I'll opt for my idea of stop motioning some of my little battle re enactments and maybe the garden timelapse one suggested and I have been considering taking part in some online dnd things, or hosting them.

ARE there actually any online D&D things where a webcam is recommended for play? I know Roll20 has a webcam feature but most people never seem to use it. That would be pretty cool.

Don't know tbh, I'm quite interested in dndesque stuff and I have a bunch of Gurps WW2 rulebooks and various others, but I haven't actually played many at all.
