The Stars Are Wrong: A Cultist Tale

There is a grand confluence once every ten thousand years. For a single second the planets and the tides and the stars align perfectly, and the great barriers between worlds are torn asunder. In this instant it is possible to guide one of the Aor-inab, beings grander and more alien then any god imagined by man, through to our world.
Your cult (The Brotherhood of Forgotten Knowledge) has been laboring for centuries to gather the knowledge and mystic items necessary to bring this about. On the very night of The Ritual your plans were laid to waste. A group of ignorant fools, scared of the new world The Ritual would bring about, rushed in killing all the ranking members of your brotherhood (and almost all of lower ranking members as well), and burning all the lore and artifacts that you had obtained.
Only six of you made it out of the guildhall, and although the great plans of your brotherhood were laid to waste, it is still not the end. The secondary effects of the grand confluence will linger for centuries more, and although the great task is now far beyond your grasp, power is still easily obtainable with the knowledge you possess.

Name: Jannys
Starting Manias: Kleptomania, Impulse Control Disorder
Item:Winch Heavy Crossbow (with ammo pretty please)
Biography: Jannys (currently 19) was inducted into the cult at the age of 15, before then she was a medieval weapon enthusiast and managed to get her parents to acquire a crossbow for her. She is quite accomplished with it and when not doing cult stuff, she runs an authentic medieval style equipment and antique shop.

edit: chose manias, this should be fun

Name: Roger Harman
Starting Manias: Necrophobia, Gynophobia.
Item: Well-Crafted Blackthorn Cane
Biography: Roger, though only a youth of about 24 years, certainly has enough crazy within him to fit two or perhaps even three people. His entire family - well, his only relation, a paternal uncle who had brought him up, had also been a low-level member of the cult. Thus, Roger's childhood was a bit of an intriguing one - when the other kids of the neighborhood went to church, Roger and his uncle attended whatever satanic communion was happening at the moment. Roger, being the impressionable lad he was, was quite lucky - many lesser men would have snapped from the intense barrage of nightmarish horrors one would see at every service. Roger, instead, came off easy - only a crippling phobia of women, due in no small part to the scary priestesses of the cult, and a intense dislike of death, which his uncle took the effort to carefully instill into him were the only psychological issues he attained in his time. In fact, he was seemingly normal enough to even get a job as a filing clerk in a small law firm. Now, though, he isn't sure what's going to happen to him.

Name: "Lamb"
Starting Manias:
Compulsive Liar
Veritaphobia

Item:
The Brotherhood of Forgotten Knowledge Grimoire

Biography:
The Lamb is an old and mysterious cultist. Considered insane even by his own brethren, he is generally secluded from most meetings with them. Only the higher ranked know his real face, which is always covered by his hood, or a mask. The Lamb was born into the Cult, and raised in secret by his mother, a lowly cultist, and his father, a cultist quickly rising in rank. When he was discovered, his father killed his mother to protect his rank, and leaving the Lamb alone in the dark tunnels.

The Lamb was fully aware of this, but every time he was asked of his parents, he would change his story, from them being in a business trip, to him being orphaned through a fire. Those that do know what happened told him one day, but he shrugged it off as a prank by the older cultists. Since the Lamb was never initiated, he wasn't part of the Brotherhood. But because he knew too much, he was never allowed to leave.

He was an outsider to both sides of sanity.

See, this is why phobias are where it's at. Phobias are really fun to play in my experience. Particularly broad phobias that apply to commonly found things.

Also, question for the GM: when we hit 0 sanity, can we at least suggest our next mania or is it all your decision?

Name: Kathryn Whittaker
Starting Manias: Toxicomania , Florimania.
Item: Big Flowerpot
Biography: Kathryn Whittaker was the daughter of the Cults Master Herbalist, born into the scent of flowers and the chanting of maniacs. Her childhood was spent in endless planting and studying their various effects-from the pharmacological to the spiritual. Needless to say, a lack of parental love and attention made her turn to the flowers as her only friends, whom she would from then on personify as actual people. She even began to believe that some were conspiring against her, and began the ritual consumption of the most poison of them as 'purification'. And getting rid of her enemies...

She's currently hardly more than 19, terrified and alone and insane after seeing her parents tommygunned down by 'heroes'-having survived the massacre of the Order by hiding under a large bougainvillaea she named Will.
