In that case, Ashley would have been shocked as electricity courses through her. Non-lethally of course. Arthur wasn't exactly going to make his armor respond with full power to every single minor event. "Odd... that wasn't supposed to do that..." Ricardo helps Arthur check his armor. The unit wasn't supposed to respond to physical contact. (They had no idea what Ashley tried to do).

I'm more intrigued by their design of it myself. They had it built with those messages as it unravelled, so they likely want the people she's with to seek revenge for some unknown purpose.
