((I'm satisfied.))

"Yeah, I can't see much use in staying here longer than we need to..."

Go back to the entrance.

(I'm satisfied with my inventory.)

"Hey..." Michael laid a comforting hand on the shoulder of his weeping friend, then knelt down beside her. "It's going to be okay... It's all going to be fine."

[7+2+3+2+3-5=12] As soon as the words leave your mouth, the young girl slaps your hand away.

"What, exactly, is going to be okay?! Everyone we know is DEAD. Moursey is DEAD. My mother is DEAD! My whole life is ruined, and you're telling me that it's going to be okay?!" The tears wouldn't stop, but her face was twisted into an expression of rage.

"Now we have to go out there, where those fuckers are! And I bet there's worse! Rapists and monsters and... and who knows what else!

"I would shoot myself right now if it wasn't for--" she stops herself short. Her look of rage is interrupted by one of acute sadness.

But she soon returns to her anger. "Fuck you, doctor, go to hell." She pushes you away and storms off.

...

Daniels returns to the vault entrance, where he finds most of the others. Michael and Janice are still inside, and the recruit is still in the adjacent room, but Daniels doesn't wait for them to start talking.

"Alright... Okay... Everyone is dead. They left nothing behind. Everyone is dead," he tries to stay calm, but cracks in his resolve show clear as day. He is barely able to keep himself together.

"We need a plan. We need to do... something. Anything. Oh God, what are we supposed to do?!" he cries as he stumbles over to the wall and begins punching the metal surface. Looks like it was up to someone else to come up with the plans.

Shortly afterwards, Janice shows up. She has her magnum in her hand and at her side. "So, are we going to kill the fuckers that did this, or what?" she says with dull eyes, tears drying on her face. She was done being sad, now it was time for anger. And vengeance.

I agree, we can't stay here, and we also need to stick together, strength in numbers and all that

(( Sam didn't need to check the vault, seeing what was outside of the inner door was all the confirmation he needed that his bad feeling had been right. ))

Sam looks at the group then sighs shaking his head.

"I tried to warn them. my feelings are never wrong. If they'd listened to me this wouldn't have happened. Daniels, I know it wasn't your fault the overseer was an ass but is this a clear enough message to trust me when I say something? Or do I need to drag your ass down to your families rooms before you get the idea? "

He then walks over to Janice.

"Calm down girl, we'll help you get revenge but getting angry will only get you killed. If you want to live long enough to kill whoever did this you need to be calm and think clearly. Got it?"

Sam then looks at the group.

"Hey, did anybody see the overseers body?"

Michael stared at the absence of Janice. That was the first time he had been referred to as "Doctor" in a long while. Something was pressing into the back of his mind, something he had been trying to ignore.

If they killed her family... what about mine?

Michael stepped away from the room of death, then looked out into the corridor, down the way. He could see the door to his parents apartment was slightly open. Could he see a stain of blood? He walked over, dreading every second that brought him closer to the door. He tried to look inside, but he simply couldn't do it. He closed the door, and looked away. Michael tried to blink back tears, and simply said to himself "They had to have left. They had to."

Michael slumped down and held his head in his hands. "They had to..."

After having an attack of the despairs, Michael heads back to the main group with absolutely nothing to say, and nothing in his eyes.

Shaken and with heavy hearts, the group leaves the vault behind. Your home, your lives, everything you know is behind you... Just outside the entrance you spot your sister vault's door across the way, still sealed. In large, yellow letters you see 58B etched into the imposing door. It was heavily scratched, but otherwise in good shape. Did they even know what had happened? Perhaps they were going along with their lives, blissfully unaware of the horrors that lie next door.

The thought might cross most of your minds. They'll let us in, all we have to do is bang on the door. Scream, plead, call for help. But no. No one on the other side would hear you. Even if they did, would they let you in?

With that slight repose behind you, the group moves towards the real exit, the door to this dank cave. Light seeps in through the cracks of the aged, wooden door. Real light, sunlight. Eventually one of you gets the courage to open this door to reveal the real world...

What lies beyond is either far better, far worse, or just as you expected. After your eyes adjust to the bright, natural light, the scenery embeds itself into your minds. A wasteland. You stand atop a hillside adjacent to the rocky outcropping that hid the cave you just left behind. Before you lies a forest. Or, what constitutes as a forest in this world. Desiccated skeletons that might have once been called trees dot the landscape. Above the treeline to the west you see a trail of smoke... And the sky. The sky! Above you... so high above you... you can see murky, brown clouds masking that ball of light you've only dreamed about. The enormity of this world surpasses what any of you are used to, having lived your whole lives in an enclosed space.

A path has been cleaved violently into the forest, leading away from the cave door, and into the depths of the dead forest. And beside it, a reminder of the horrors you have recently witnessed. A charred body crucified on an inverted, makeshift cross. The poor soul in burned beyond recognition, but most of you probably have an idea of who it is...

The cold neutrality Janice felt just minutes ago melts away when she is faced with the outside world. When faced with the sky. She backs up into the doorway and holds onto the sides of the frame. "Oh my God... Shit, shit!" she whispers, shaking.

Daniels isn't as startled. He keeps his pistol up and ready, looking around for any sign of hostiles.

Each one of your pipboys starts whining momentarily, in a fashion Rachelle finds familiar. Daniels wastes no time, adjusting his pipboy to the newly detected radio station. A song the group isn't familiar with starts playing...

After a few minutes, the song ends and somebody begins to speak.

"Citizens of the 313, I have some somber news for you today," a man's voice begins. "Bermuda Black, the Hero of the Wastes, the Protector of the Weak, the Paradigm... is dead. I wish it weren't true, oh, I wish it weren't true! But yes, Bermuda is dead. The man who killed Big Pete, who broke the Slavers Chain, who saved Grainston, was killed yesterday by a pack of mercenaries. The True Brothers claim responsibility for the act, and the Brotherhood of Steel confirms it. Paladin Mays was the one to call the hit, and the bastards actually did it.

"So... Congratulations Brotherhood, you've killed a hero. You fuckers.

"The wasteland became a bit more evil today, folks. But never lose hope. Another will rise to fight the Brotherhood, and the slavers, and the cultists. Don't give up, my fellow 'landers.

"We'll be continuing our broadcast of blues for the rest of the day. We mourn today, my friends, but tomorrow we rise up taller than before. Peace."

A new song starts playing to match the tone of the news.

"Did you hear that?! A radio station, an actual radio station! There's civilization out there. Decent people," Daniels says, a glimmer of hope in his eyes.

Before anyone can respond, someone calls out to the group.

"Wait! Wait for me!" The recruit pushes past Janice and falls to the ground. "Please... Don't leave me!" he says, looking up to the group. He couldn't be older than twenty, now that you take a good look at him. His blue eyes betray his innocence, and his shaking body betrays his fear.

Sam pulls Daniels and Janice out of earshot of the group then looks at them both.

"We have no supplies and no idea where to find any up here, Daniels you've had training so I can trust you to do as I say can't I, you know the importance of chain of command? Janice, you want revenge and your not the only one so I can trust you to do as I say as well.

We have to survive if we're going to kill whoever did this and we are going to kill them. So both of you stay near me and keep your eyes open ok? I don't know how the others are going to handle our situation.

Ok? I'll make sure we survive but I need you two on my side."

Michael's sadness is melted away as he stares at the sky. His mouth was about as low as one could imagine it going, and his eyes were full of wonder. "My lord... It's..." Then the music began to play. He looked at his pipboy and shook his head. Then he pursed his lips, and thought. Then he began to spin slowly, holding out his pipboy clad arm straight ahead.

Try to guess the vague direction of the radio by pointing the pipboy outward, and seeing where the signal seems strongest.

Daniels gives you a strange look. "I don't know if I trust you to lead us, Sam. You're the one who split the vault. If we weren't so busy arguing over who we should support, maybe we could've done something... Anything to stop what happened."

"Don't be an idiot, Daniels. Did you see what happened in there? We didn't stand a chance, even if we had guns enough for the whole vault." She looks at you directly and begins to size you up. "I don't care who leads us, as long as we chase after who did this." With that, she returns to the main group.

"Just... Let me in on the decisions, okay? Let us all in. We have to stick together, that means we can't alienate anyone." He didn't explicitly say he was on your side, but his tone is so weak you doubt he'd fight against you. He returns to the main group as well.

Clair turns to the recruit "And you are?"

"I'm... Hobbes. Nathan Hobbes. I'm sorry I... broke down. But I'm ready to fight now. I think." he pulls out his pistol, hands shaking. "What are we going to do?"

"We're going after the fuckers that did this, all we have to do is follow their path," Janice says, pointing down the trail of destruction.

"No, we have to regroup. We should find some civilization first. Get allies. Weapons," Daniels puts in, recovering from his recent breakdown.

"Wait, what?! We can't go after the guys who did this! We have to run away!" Hobbes protests.

Michael's sadness is melted away as he stares at the sky. His mouth was about as low as one could imagine it going, and his eyes were full of wonder. "My lord... It's..." Try to guess the vague direction of the radio by pointing the pipboy outward, and seeing where the signal seems strongest.

There is no one direction more favourable than the next. It seems whoever is broadcasting this signal has the proper equipment to broadcast over a large area without issue.

"We not going to charge after them right away and we not going to force anyone to fight them, but they can't be allow to get away with what they done." Clair look around "What direction guys? My pip boy showing something to the west so I'm voting that way."

"I was thinking of heading towards wherever the radio's coming from, but the person who set it up obviously has good equipment so they can broadcast everywhere without losing the signal in a certain direction, so west seems like our best option. Anyway, I don't think we could get after those bastards if we tried. I mean, look at this place. We barely know what it was like before the apocalypse, now look at it. And they've been there all their lives. They're probably long gone."
