What's the point in having wood, if you can make even buckets out of stone? ::)

Whats the point in not having stone buckets?  :P

Spoiler: RL stone bucket (click to show/hide)

PS: The point is weight/speed. Stone bucket is heavy, wood bucket is light.

Yea. Have fun with that thing. A wooden well would be lighter. Yet dwarves can haul stone ΘπÆ┼s in a matter of seconds, so I guess weight won't really matter in the end.

Well made stone tools like buckets would be not much heavier than earthenware items of similar dimensions, depending on the material. Of course, galena or native platinum would be a poor choice for buckets. Welded wolfram buckets FTW.

The point is: Would people with stone buckets actually get slowed that much for it to really matter?

I think you (we) are abducting the thread and talk about a completely pointless topic. The fact that water can only be transported by using wood in vanilla DF is just silly. The mod changes the gamebalance and allows stone for this. In the overall scheme of things, with warlocks and demons, diseases and sieges, this is absolutely and completely irrelevant.

If a discussion about gamebalance is important to you, please open another thread for it. Thats why we have this child-board. But I'd rather not spam around more in the only succession-fort thread that exists here.

Completely pointless topic. Fine. in a game with fireproof palisades and magma smelters, I guess mine is just a whim I'll have to satisfy on my own. I guess this is not the right mod for realism either. I shouldn't have brought up this fussiness here, on this topic.

So, I'm starting to get some of those crashes that everyone's been going on about lately.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This happened just as Urist McCreepyhusband finished picking one of the surface plants, I'm not sure what the other dwarves were doing, but yeah. My guess is that he accidentally uprooted Yggdrasil, being that they're on the edge of existence and all.

---)(---

SC ML 9:

Urvad found food! As well as something that is decidedly not food! We are all eternally grateful to him, especially whoever won the wrestling match for the morsel.

Plus, with the help of one of our buckets and the snowfall within the yak pasture, we've managed to make that fishpond I was talking about earlier. It's slow going, but I'm confidant we'll be able to catch a surplus with enough determination. The others- who are not well-versed in the mysticism of fishery working- keep demanding to know where we've been hiding all the fish our new pond is stocked with. I don't know what to tell them, honestly.

SC ML 10:

Oh gods, why? Those thrice damned blizzardmen just won't go away! They keep hovering about the edge of the world- as if they want to somehow leap off of creation itself- but then they turn around and circle the wasteland again. A short while ago we had quite a scare, the monsters actually ran straight for the floor hatch to our fortress! Just marched right up, danced around our entrance, before marching right back to the edge!

WHAT DO YOU WANT BLIZZARDMEN!?!

Also of note, the livestock gave birth recently, I've ordered the males to be slaughtered to stock our larders.

SC ML 11:

More migrants! Hopefully this batch will be as productive as the Odd Couple, as we've taken to calling them.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

But wait, what are those...?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

NOOOOooo!! I can't watch! Lambcake, do me a favor and chisel out some slabs for the- What the?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Really? That's who we've been cowering at the thought of? I almost feel sorry for them, maybe we should set up some cage traps and try to tame the poor things.

Two more married couples, what do these people think we're doing here, to make them think SteelyCathedrals is a good place to raise their families? We're digging for buried treasure people! In a permafrosted wasteland at the edge of the world! Honestly, some people...

Joy.

At least we've got a doctor now.

SC ML 12:

Meph has finally finished "liberating" her galena vein, at first I thought she would start getting back to the official excavation we're supposed to be doing, but instead she darted off to the stocks to grab gods know what. I've seen dwarves that get touched, and though she didn't seem to be touched herself, I reckon she has something big planned all the same.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

She just got back to me and presented me with a rough plan of what she claims will bless us with Armok's favor.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A cathedral in SteelyCathdrals? Sure, why not!? She excitedly pointed out what all the rooms would be; reliquaries to house our artifacts, a Hall of the Honored Dead for citizens that die in bloody combat, special housing for the clergy, "baptismal doors" made from great-axe traps that bisect the unworthy, multiple altars, totems and temples within the complex for the devout... She spoke so fast, that I missed the rest but it did sound like something Armok would delay our painful deaths to see.

---)(---

While I'm pretty sure the year isn't up yet, (Save screen still says it's 251) when it is it would be nice to know who gets the fort next and how exactly I give it to them. I started this thing on a whim, and I'm not sure enough of all the protocols to mess with saves or raws or whatever without any instructions.

EDIT: Changed an image that was copied wrong.

I've been trying to save the wood until the fungiwood farm starts producing, without any caravans to rely on every twig is precious. Besides, you're also the archaeologist and mechanic.

Well, that's quite good. :) Am I busy or do I always spend my time idling in the meeting hall? If so, I might as well become mayor. :P

Most of the non-food producing dwarves have been idling since I've been trying to fight the famine, might change now that I've got iron to work and the blizzardmen and proven harmless enough to start covering the pasture.
