Pacifist Minotaur?
« on: August 21, 2013, 07:22:31 pm »

I had a minotaur attack my fortress last night.  I caught it in a cage trap and dumped it into my "mob arena" of sorts to feed it invaders.  I dumped a goblin thief in there, but the minotaur won't go after it.  Are goblins and semi-megabeasts not enemies?

The minotaur IS injured, which may have something to do with it.  I think it got shot prior to being caught, or maybe the fall from dumping it into the floor below (one Z-level) hurt it a lot.  Its right eye is gone and its left eye is injured, so could it have been blinded?  The left eye is yellow in the wounds list.

If it's missing an eye and the other is damaged, there's a good chance that your minotaur is now blind.

Just checked after a while, doing other things.  It's all healed up.  Still ignoring the goblin.

Edit: The wound list could be glitched; I looked at the minotaur's description, and it still says his eye's gone.

Still doesn't explain why the goblin won't attack.

Hmm that is odd. I'm no expert on the way wounds work, but I wonder if perhaps his injured eye became infected and rotted away?

If so, then he's pretty much worthless to me. >.< I'll keep him around for a while, see if he improves.  If not, I'll just kill him and his goblin buddy.

[badidea]
Why not release him into the fort and see if he attacks your dwarves?

No silly!

See if you can appropriate a female minotaur, then do a little raw poking!

It may be possible to eventually domesticate minotaurs!

And Ber Melbilsat, countess of Knifemartyred, did lay waste to her enemies, big and small, riding upon an army of minotaur soldiers...

I want this.

War minotaurs.

Wouldn't that require a world regen?

I've had a number of captured minotaurs, but never tried breeding them.  (And generally found upon killing them and making a memorial slab that they had historically been killing dwarves, and therefore wonder if the taming attempt would take.)

Per dumping goblins in I think something gets set after you cage them that makes them not fight each other.  Only time I got a fighting pit really going is when I managed to catch and dump a crippled forgotten beast into the pit.  It rolled about pushing goblin thieves to death for a while.  Eventually a spear goblin dismembered it.

I really hope caging them doesn't make them stop fighting... That'd kinda defeat the whole purpose of building this room.

Ssjames:

Adding [child], and [pet] tags does not require worldgen. Altering their composition, or making them have a civilization, or adding/removing [grazer] however does.

Making them be able to poop out adorable little baby abominations shouldn't be a problem, as long as you don't introduce a new caste. (Babies born as adults.)

I've successfully put those tags on giant lions, for instance.

Hm, I had an ettin which got captured in a cage trap, but when I let it out for my swordsdwarves to practice on, it didn't even fight back. I don't know if the swordsdwarves were so fast that it didn't have time to fight back, but I really don't think that was the case. It happened both times when I did it first and then savescummed for some reason and did it again.

Oh I see. It's been a long while since I've done modding in DF.

Just killed the prisoners.  Both goblin and minotaur attacked my dwarves without hesitation.  Maybe goblins and minotaurs really don't fight.
